Can You Sleep With The Lights On or Off?

Which do you prefer? I used to sleep with the lights off when I was single. It hurts my eyes and i would surely toss and turn and wouldn't be able to sleep. When my babies arrived, they sleep with me in the same room, I need to keep a small night lamp so they won't be scared when they wake up in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep at first but I had to be accustomed.

Light lowers your levels of melatonin which help you sleep. If you wake up in the night to go to the bathroom and turn the light on, you may have trouble getting back to sleep because the light will have lowered your melatonin levels. Having said that, I guess we have only had a slip of a moon the last few nights because it would be the only light in our bedroom... that and the digital numbers on the clock radio. Twice in the last week I have gotten up to go to the bathroom and gotten lost in my bedroom trying to find my way out. I bumped into things, even fell down. My husband heard me whimpering and asked if I was okay. I usually use the clock radio as a guide because I know where it is sitting so I should be able to orient myself but this last week I haven't been able to do that for some reason. But I can't stand to sleep with the light on unless I'm sick and may have to use the waste basket in a hurry. Having fibromyalgia, I have a sleep disorder, so any help I can get to help me sleep I have to use it, and that means sleeping in the dark.

I like to sleep with the lights off. I have to have almost complete darkness, although in day time I sometimes am so tired that I will go to sleep almost immediately as I do need an afternoon nap. But what bothers me is that we have the fan on and the air conditioner on, and that bothers me. I find it hard to sleep especially when I am worried about something.

My 13 month old baby sleeps with me and I keep a nightlight on during the night but when I didn't have any kids I would sleep with no lights and a heavy curtain b/c any little light would wake me up and there is a street light that shines in our bedroom.

I prefer to sleep with the lights off and the room as dark as can be. I can get very disturbed with lights on even it is a night lamp.

Oh.. I could never sleep with the lights on! LOL I rarely have the lights on when I am awake because they bug me, so I guess I save a lot of energy and electric from that alone. For me, the darker the better. :) I hate when I wake up in the morning and the sun is shining in my window. I always want to cover my head and hide.

Hi eihdra, I like to have a small light, but in the hallway, rather than the bedroom. Blessings

Me I like the lights off. I just feel more comfortable with the off and I am able to sleep better with my lights off. But, of course I am not married or have kids yet so maybe that will change ans I get older.

I have to have it completly dark. My babies are the same way. The only night light we have in the house is in the bathroom so when my oldest (3 year old) gets up in the middle of the night he can see in there. I would never be able to sleep if we had to have lights on HAHA.

I can fall asleep when the lights on. However, I still prefer to sleep with the lights off. Since I am already sleeping, it's not necessary to waste the energy any more. It means nothing when the lights on. And I've heard that sleeping in a darkness will be healthier. I love China

I usually like to turn everything off before going to bed. I have nite lites that burn in each rm at nite in case i need to go potty or get a drink. I have a basement apt and lites off you can not see your hand 1/2 in in front of you. Unless im really tired and crash out then i dont care what is on.

I prefer sleeping with lights off but it doesn't really bother me if the lights are on either... My daughter went through a phase, & still have some, when she was afraid to sleep alone in the dark... She used to snuggle up to me & wants me to keep the light on so I guess I've gotten used to that...
