Cravings... do you ever get them?

I mean, really craving for some kind of food. And it takes a heck of a long time to satisfy that craving! At one stage, I was craving for guava. So, every week, during my marketing trip, you will see me lug home a few kilos of the fruit home so that I can eat it throughout the week. Then there was the time when I have a chocolate craving which no amounts of chocolate could satisfy till I got a sore throat from eating too much of the delicious stuff. Then now it is a craving for fast foods. Any kind of fast foods. It can be burgers, fried chicken or pizza or even pasta, it doesn't matter! I sure hope this current craving of mine can be satisfied soon. The pounds are starting to pill up. Took me a good month to get rid of them and I am reversing all those efforts cos of my cravings. Do you also have craving pangs like me? How do you deal with it?

Sometimes I will go through a similar phase. I will have the same exact grocery list when I shop for a straight month. At one point in time I was making my favorite fried chicken all the time.

10 pounds of party wings?!? That is like really a lot of wings to be gnawing away at! So, how do you prepare them? Barbecue? Deep fried? Stir fried? Stewed?Man, I would love to be able to do that! But my wife will probably think I am nuts and send me to the asylum! Then again, she loves me too much to want to see me put on all those unnecessary pounds which is really hard to get rid off later.

I know what you mean. I too do that some times. At one stage it was all about chicken nuggets. Had a whole fridge full of it. Ate it almost everyday! If you open my fridge on those days, you'd think I was opening a store selling nuggets!

LMAO!!! When I go to the meat market I buy like 10 pounds of party wings, so whenever people look in my freezer they ask me if I have enough chicken...lol.

Siew Mai - A delicious dumpling that is exposed on one side.
Usually with a prawn and meat filling.
I too have specific cravings from time to time. Like recently, I was craving for Fried Chicken. And no matter how I try to satisfy it with cheaper alternatives, I can never be satisfied. Only Kentucky Fried Chicken can do it. Drove my wife nuts cos she doesn't encourage me to eat junk food. Especially fast food. Sio Mai? Are we refering to the same thing? A dumpling that is exposed on one side with a very delicious meat filling? Much like the one in the picture? Craving Sio Mai is something new. I have yet to yearn for those stuff. Heh heh heh... Sio Mai House? They are that good? I wonder if they have a branch where I live.

Wow, guava is one of my favorite fruit also. About your question when I'm craving, I ask my Mom if she can buy me this or that food I'll just give her my money to buy some. But if I don't have money, I'll need to sacrifice until I get my income.

ha ha ha ha ha... the privilege of still living with mum. I used to do that when I was still living with her. Just need to inform her of what I feel like eating, and it will be there at the end of the day when I get home. Ahh... gone are the days of my privilege youth! heh heh...

Sometimes , for me a food craving will just come out of the blue and most times it will pass . If it doesn't I will have to go and get the thing I was craving . It sucks that most of my craving are the no no foods when you are trying to lose weight . I always get chcolate or pizza cravings and sometimes give in . I was craving a pine apple the other day , and no harm there

I know exactly what you mean. That is why cravings is a love hate relationship. On one hand, if you do not satisfy the craving, it will keep nagging on you for days at no end. On the other, you have to beware of what you are craving for. Frustrating isn't it?

I'm craving over these cheese-filled biscuits for some weeks now. I thought I wouldn't like them but now I can't live without them. Hehe. It's fun and tormenting to have cravings. Fun when you have it, tormenting when you don't.

I know what you mean. And some times it is guilty too. Cos if you know you are going on a diet, indulging in a craving is the last thing one should be doing. BUT when you are satisfying the craving... it is oh so good. What kind of cheese filled biscuits are you referring to?

I know exactly what you mean - at the moment I have cravings for coleslaw! I'm just loving it! There was a time when I was addicted to Tuna and I would eat it for every meal for two straight weeks. There's also times when I could drink gallons of ice cold water or eat loads of blackberries - it's so weird! I'm not sure how you're supposed to deal with them so I just go with it!

If my cravings are for something healthy like you, I am fine with going along with it. I remember a time where I was craving for guava so bad, I literally was eating it for all my meals and nothing else! For three straight weeks, I only ate guava and nothing else! My wife thought I was crazy then. The problem come when you have cravings for stuff like ice cream. That is the headache part. Nice in the mouth, terrible in the waist!

That is loving chocolate and getting a fix all the time. A craving is something that will pass. It may come back, but not all the time. Heh heh... I do have chocolate cravings from time to time. The last time I had a chocolate craze, it was at least a year back. Ate so many chocolates, I got a sore throat in the end.

ha ha ha ha ha... I know what you mean. I too sometimes have cravings that cannot be satisfied for a long time. Food that is not easily available locally are the worst kind to crave for. Good that you are able to satisfy your craving. And to have some one else give the treat, it is a even sweeter and more satisfying experience!

I wouldn't call it craving but is a personal taste for certain foods. I like chocolate and fast food but don't eat them everyday, because they taste better if I just eat it once in a while, otherwise my tastebuds would be numbed! Especially for dark chocolate and coffee, there's a trend to eat them because of their beneficial antioxidants, but I suppose we always try to eat moderately and not eat a dozen bars of chocolate or coffee just for the antioxidants?

Actually chocolate are good for the antioxidants. It is the sugar in them that makes it fattening and unhealthy. I am sure there are alternatives to chocolates when it comes to antixodants. Gree tea is packed full of them. How about mangoesteen? Those have lots of antixodants too. And cranberries? I am sure there are lots of other fruits as well.

Wow and I only thought pregnant women had cravings! Personally I'm a person who likes variety of food, and I don't have any very very favourite fruits or food so to speak. Hence, I seldom have cravings. I always see myself as a can eat anything, low maintenance kind of gal haha. I think when i was young my mum was quite proud when she told her friends that I'm not a fussy eater and will eat almost everything she feeds me. most kids these days and those days were fussy eaters i guess. I hope you stop craving for fast food!it's really unhealthy. i read something that says these are called 'empty calories' which means that they are calories without nutrition. when we take in food, we should eat those that give good protein, fibre and vitamins, and the accompanying calories are then 'worth it'.

ha ha ha ha ha... the fast food craving is starting to pass already. Not much of a craving now a days. Used to crave for sweet food and drinks. Now a days, dunno why, when eating sweet food and drinks, just find them too sweet for my liking. End up need to dilute them before I can continue consuming them. As for cravings, well, it doesn't happen all the time. Like I said, I do crave for healthier options every now and then. Heh heh... It is good that you do not have craving attacks. This is good. It gets frustrating when a craving attack comes and you are craving for something that is not local. Aiyoh... that is when no matter what you try, you just cannot get satisfied with the local version of what you are craving for. You are free from such frustrations! Good for you squaretile!

wow that's really some craving. i have craving pangs but no way near your magnitude. my cravings are usually satisfied by one, sometimes two meals of the same thing. i can't tolerate eating the same thing over and over again. there's this theory that i actually believe in. whenever one has some kind of cravings, it's actually the body trying to send a message. just like we'd feel thirsty when our body is starting to dehydrate. maybe you ignored your inner voice for far too long. that's why it takes so long to satisfy a craving. take care ;)

I understand the part about the body making us crave for nourishments when we are lacking of it. The example being thirsty when the body is dehydrated. But cravings for french fries? What is the body lagging that it requires french fries? I am also trying to figure out that mystery. Meanwhile I am just happy to indulge in that craving binge every once in a while.

well our body functions in a mysterious way. we need a whole lot of things to function. fats are necessary stuff for our body to work. so when your fat intake falls short, your body will send a signal. only this signal is perceived as a craving for french fries. it could be due to the fact that this is about the thing you do eat that is laden with fats is french fries. it is amazing how everything we eat serves a purpose. the key here is moderation. as long as you don't over indulge, everything is healthy. ;p

Yea. Of course. Girls have more craving than guys (especially during that time of the month). Chocolate cravings are normal for me. I have it once in a while. Recently, I have potato chips cravings. This is kind of rare for me. I like Mark and Spencers chips. My craving is not considered satisfied until I get to eat them. I'll never crave for fast food. In fact, I always get sick of them easily.

good day..cravings seldom attack me but when it does I give in. Some things that I once craved were a burger with a pineapple ring, a banoffee pie and a Chinese noodles. Among these the Chinese kept haunting me. Others I just ate them once and my cravings were satisfied but with this noodle I had to eat them at least once every two weeks.

Being a weed smoker I am always getting cravings for snack foods. I often crave chocolate, cereal, potato chips or donuts. I often crave cooked food as well like pizza, burgers, or fried chicken or my personal favourite kebabs.

Kebabs are nice, but very troublesome to make at home. Going all the way to town to satisfy a craving is not something I will usually do. So what kinda kebabs are you into? Mutton? Chicken? Beef? Served on a tortilla? or in a bun like a hot dog?

Well, to curb the hunger pangs, add more bulky fibers to your meals. If possible, swap out white bread for wholemeal ones. Eat oats instead of rice. Oats have the capability to regulate blood sugar. With a steadier blood sugar level, you will not have so much cravings due to the extreme fluctuation of blood sugar levels. Eat lots of vegetables. The fiber in the vegetables will add bulk to the meal. Eat lots of Guava as well. Those add a lot of bulk to your meal, making you feel fuller and less hungry at the same time.

I used to crave for raw mangoes, and I could sit and get through a full one with a little bit of salt and chilly powder. Thre are times I would take my bike and just go looking for one. The sad thing is that this a seasonal fruit and I could get to do it for only few months in a year. So when its not available and I would drink a cup of tea which would get rid of the craving.

I do get the cravings for mangoes from time to time. Which are your favorites? The honey mangoes from Thailand or the nectar ones from Australia? When the season comes, I could be eating anywhere from 3 to 4 kilos of the fruit every week! Love it when they are all cold from the refrigeration. Easily can down two or three of the fruits at one go.

I have a sweet tooth so whenever I have one, I would drive to the store and get candy and/or candy bars or I suck on a piece of hard candy until it goes away. I don't like stuffing my house with junk food because of obvious reasons. After I eat my sweets for awhile, I crave for a salad. Maybe it's my body telling me to eat something healthier. I also try to eat as many fruits as I can like watermelon, because it fills you up and/or cherries known as "nature's candy" and strawberries. Or I drink V8 fruit and vegetable juice. Sometimes when I have my serving of sweets, I crave for a salad or something healthier. Maybe it's because our bodies "know" what foods it's ready to go into our systems. When I was preggars, I was craving very bad for a shishkebob (sp?). It was a very good meat with a very good dressing on it on a stick. Maybe it was my body telling me to eat more protein so I did. I don't know how some women don't like sweets. I know some women who don't like sweets but their husbands do and I found that these women I know aren't as friendly as their husbands. I believe that the foods we eat can affect our personalities. Sometimes we have to eat foods that satisfies us so we don't go insane and enjoy life more.

I so agree with you! We gotta let ourselves go once in a while. Life would be meaningless if we do not indulge ourselves every once in a while. Most times, I do not entertain my cravings. But when I do, I make sure I enjoy every moment of it. Eat to live AND live to eat. Some times I tell myself, it is better to die a happy and satisfied fat man rather than a skinny grouchy man.

Why not try to make them yourself at home? Tacos are not difficult to make. And you can make a whole bunch of them to eat at a very low cost. What is the link between Ugly Betty and Tacos?

That sounds more like an addiction than a craving. Cravings are something you can satisfy after a period of time. Well, I do crave for coke some times. Especially when the new coke zero came out, I went nutty over it! Taste so much better than coke lite! And then just as suddenly as the cravings came, I was drinking it one day and it just like, ok... what is the big deal about coke zero. Then the cravings stopped.

I normally do not crave foods as greatly as you do. Sometimes I do have a hankering for some Japanese food or some chips & salsa. =] It doesn't overcome my entire being, however. haha! What I do not like is when I start to crave foods that I don't even like... for example, the other day I was strongly craving some salt & vinegar Lays potato chips. I don't even like them! haha it's crazy! Oh... I'm always craving coffee, by the way. ;-)

ha ha ha ha ha... that is a funny one. One rarely craves for food that is not to one's liking! Most of the time people crave for foods that they like. Foods that make them feel good after eating them. Interesting cravings you got there!
