Gender Equality- What does It Really mean?

That's looking at it the right way I guess, not in terms of gender but in terms of other parameters that are not in any way related to the gender of the person.Would you say that it does not have to mean that women should be entitled to the same rights or privileges of a man?

To me its wrong to discriminate, whether be it be on the basis of gender, cast, religion,stature . So if there is something being done on a social issue to bring down this discrimination I would aprreciate it.

It's really wrong to discriminate but that's another issue as it can cover a broader area. Regarding gender equality, it is more the clamor of women and not of men but what do they really want when they ask for equality of gender? Some look at it as meaning equality in everything but is that possible considering the basic differences between the sexes?

Equal pay for equal work done, well that's one of the things which should be covered under gender equality in that there should be no discrimination against a person based gender. But let's not go into discrimination here as that coverd a wider area and raises more issues. Let's focus on what real gender equality means. For example, does it mean to say that women should not have special privileges since they are demanding equality? But can we close our eyes to the basic difference between the sexes? Can a man give birth to a child (the "man" who just did, incidentally was born a woman so he/she is not an argument to raise)Can a womancarry as heavy a load as a man?These are just some examples to show that there are basic and undeniable differences hence when we say gender equality, should we consider the basic differences?
