I think I want to build. That way it will be the way I want to be.I would buy and live there while Iam trying to save money to spend on the build. And also stay there while the house is being built. What would you rather do?

RECYCLE! Buy a house already built! you'll save trees, resources and land! You can always make it your with upgrades. We bought a house for 95,000 and redid all the bathrooms and kitchen. made it ours and gave habitat for humanity our left overs. With all the short sales on houses you can find a deal on a nice house! Short sales are just houses the bank have settled on a price ,less then the loan to sell. banks aren't realtors and they just want to get rid of them at that cost. it helps the home owner & bank. And even better you! RECYCLE!

I would prefer a ready made house. All the planning and the supervision that has to be done will probably make me nuts lol. I would use the time I will save for spending time with my family.:)

Great idea. That's what i did. But if I had the cash I'd buy a new one built to my specifications. the trees are replanted as they are cut by the wood industry in the States so they are recycling in a sense as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That's cheap! Around here a 3 bedroom house is about $450-$500.And that is a new home on a small lot.

We have already built 2 new homes from the bottom up..That was when we were younger, now if i were to buy it would be already built..However if a couple just starting out or young enough i would suggest them build, that way they could get it just like they want it...

If I have to do it over again I would rather buy. We went through a rough stressful time when we left our apartment and purchased a new home. First you have to deal with your apartment the timing of it from the time the leases is over and the time you move into the new home. Then through each steps of the process you have to be involve with the decision making of each pieces of the materials you want for your house from the type of flooring to the fixtures in the home and everything elses in between. Like I said if I have to do it all over again, I would rather buy a 2-5 years old home instead of a brand new built home.

Having experience in the trade, I would opt to buy a house. While I sometimes imagine what a house built just for me and the wife would look like, I realize that it is way more trouble than it is worth (permits, supplies, labor issues, etc). Personally, I would end up hiring someone to do the work because I am too busy to do the job myself. Heck, I even farm out most repair jobs around the house. I would rather spend my time working on my college degree and my writing than do hard physical labor. So in the end, it makes a lot more sense to do what me and the wife did, we brought a pre-existing home.

I plan on purchasing an apartment building and I plan on having it built for me brand new. I just don't think it's worth the risk to buy an older building that could potentially have dozens upon dozens and dozens of problems, you know?
