Those early 'Blue/Purple' disks

Could anyone help clear up a mystery please. I have one of the original PS2's - the thick one with the fan inside. Every time I put in a game which comes on one of those bluey purple coloured disks, the PS2 whistles - a bit like a quiet turbo - all the time the disk is inside. I keep thinking that something must be wrong and so I remove the disk and therefore can't play the game. Has anyone else experienced this noise? If so, do they know whether this is harmfull to the console, or is it OK to carry on playing. I just don't want to break the PS2 that's all. I'd be gratefull for any info. Thanks folks.

I can't recall hearing a noise, but the older PS2s often have trouble running "blue discs", especially if you've had them for a while. I'm not really sure why that is but I don't think it hurts the disc, or the console. If the game will load, you should be fine. It sounds like your console is just working harder to run the game since they have trouble with those types of discs.

Thanks for the comment spacetraveller. I only have two of the blue disk games, so it is no big deal to me that I don't play them. They load and play just fine ... trouble is, the thought of damaging the PS2 is always in the back of my mind. Thanks for your help.
