man my rent is $1400 a month and thats on a little 900 sq ft apartment. But I do live a couple hundred feet from one of the nicest beaches in the country :-)

No, if that is your rent in Iowa that is cheap. You must not be in Iowa City. When I lived in Iowa a few years ago, we paid $600 for a 2 bedroom in Cedar Rapids, 1 bath and that was the going rate. Funny thing, I checked the same complex recently, they have only gone up $50/mnth. We live right outside of New Orleans and currently pay $1130 for a 2 bdrm 2 ba. Wages here don't support the amount of rent we pay every month.

Ive seen a lot higher than 450. My grandfather's in idianapolis is 920, and my father's was 1100 when he was in new york city (and that was a good deal).
