After starting a discussion about my berries a little while ago I had to go pick a few. Well I found 7 this ripe only. I gave dad 3 and I ate 4. Man they were so sweet, juicy and ever so delicious. Just wanted to share this photo was all. Nothing like a fresh picked, homegrown strawberry on a hot humid day like it is here in Minnesota today. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That looks so delicious! I so wish my plant had produced more than just two berries. Anything you can tell me to have better plants next year?

Ok, this may sound like a dumb question, but what are shoots? Can you tell I am new at this?

Keep the are weeded and watch for shoots from the plant. Direct those shoots to where you want more plants to grow. the shoots will set root into the ground producing more plants. 2 years ago we started with just 5 plants and now have about 25 or more. They thrive on sunshine as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Shoots are runners that some plants send out instead of self-seeding. That's how they reproduce. Strawberry shoots/runners are sent out by the parent plant after they are done producing berries for the year. These will then take root and, therefore, more plants that will start producing more berries the following year.

Your so lucky I love strawberries so much! I tried planting them a couple of years ago in a hanging basket from seed. Well no luck. Enjoy those strawberries.

Nice to hear your strawberries are ripening up for you. Mine are already done for the summer. I'm thinking of buying some other plants that are everbearing thou. My daughter and I were out picking up the piles of grass clippings she raked up while I was mowing earlier and I parked under several mullberry trees for us to snack on. Boy were they sweet and juicy. The wild black raspberries are ripening as well so I picked a few for us to snack on as well. Same thing..super sweet and juicy. Wish my Red Raspberries would of lived thou. Guess I just don't have it in me to grow store-bought plants.

We bought one everbearing and now that has sent out about 6 shoots and a few have already rooted. So next year we will have quite a few everbloom berries as well. Bummer. My red rasberries won't produce much this year. I chopped them all to the ground last fall to promote spreading more and did they spread. Now next years batch will be huge. I hope. Homemade ice cream? Hell yeah! Hee hee! How many miles is Albert Lea from Minneapolis anyhow? I would love to get together. My daughter as well. Would be great to meet ya. Could meet half way possibly or whatever. I want to get an ice cream maker someday as I used to make it as a kid with mom often. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well.....I am not sure.....It takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get to my sister's by the VA.....And about 1 hour 15 minutes to get to my brothers in Lakeville...I do come up there quite often but usually have some big family plan to do. I am however going to come up to visit my sister soon and spend some times with her as soon as we get our schedules together....maybe we can fit in a visit! It would be great to get to meet both of you! We'll have to work on getting together!

You are making me want to go strawberry picking. There is a place about 20 miles from here where you can go pick your own. Hmmm....I think I need to go sometime.

Here in CT all the strawberries that I have picked at different farms around the area have been so super delicious. They practically melt in your mouth and need very little added sugar to make an awesome strawberry shortcake. I love fresh berry season!
