Ever Have the Hershey Squirts?

Well I am on day 15 with it and I gotta tell ya, it ain't no picnic! Getting pretty tired of "running" in panic. I fasted, took a box of Imodium, ate a bland diet and still no relief. After 12 days of this fun I called my doctor. I was told to go to the hospital to give a "sample." Wonderful. So, now I have to wait for 48 hours for the results. Hopefully they will find something so I can get rid of this soon. My boss told me to look on the bright side, I would be losing some weight. This is true, but would rather not lose it this way.

My little granddaughter had the same problem...and they kept taking her in and they would say....well she has the flu. ( six weeks of it?)So finally my son got sick and tired of it and took her to St. Mary's hospital in Rochester MN....part of Mayo Health systems and finally got an answer. It started with the flu and turns out when you have the flu that the lining in your intestines breaks down and the little emzyme that helps you with lactose gets flushed out....so now she is lactose intolerant. And probably will be for a long time. Any dairy and she is back where you are now. Good luck and hope you get some results soon.

I can't believe they waited so long with your granddaughter. Kids have a tough time shaking illness.

I have been considering some Gatorade because it replaces the electrolites lost while perspiring so it may help me too.

This happened to me when I was pregnant and lasted for 2 months. They never could find what was wrong, and finally told me it was stress, which I really was stressed at the time. My doctor asked me to give a sample, too. She asked me when I thought I would be able to give her one and I told her "Anytime, do you need it now?" That's how bad it was. Hope you feel better soon!

I am beginning to wonder if that is truly what it is. My life has been turned upside down and twisted so it may be just that.

The doctor sent me for tests that came back negative. My symptoms seem to be less and less as time goes on. I believe that stress plays a factor.

Oh I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had this problem when I was put on a new medication a couple of years ago. I was so sick every day and could not do it anymore so my doctor lowered my dose and I have been fine since. Yes you will lose weight but this is not a healthy way to do it at all. I hope you feel better soon. :)

I have had to go to work every day with this misery. Luckily my clients all have indoor plumbing.

Hopefully once they determine what is causing this I can get back on track again. It really puts a dent in your daily activity.

Yes it does mess up your day. When I had it real bad from the meds, I was in bed all day, luckily our bedroom was right beside the bathroom. :)

And you don't keep it off when you lose it this way. I started having a bad reaction to legumes years ago, and while Imodium did help, I was absolutely weak after having a round with it. And it was... oh, decided not to decribe it - just tooo nasty - case of too much information.... Finally I've had to watch my intake of legumes - and cut cola entirely out of my diet.

That would be a bummer if I had to cut legumes out of my diet. I love them.

"after 12 days"...oh,ElusiveButterfly,why did you take such a long time to see a doctor? I mean,Hershey Squirts is such a miserable "fun".i was last year and it nearly killed me!i still remember it and this "fun" is absolutaly a nightmare! Are you ok now?yes,a bland diet is needed.I just give u a tiny sugesstion, that is to drink some water with a little salt. it's a bit use. Good luck, wish you getting rid of it soon and the bright side is always right! :)

I did for 2 months. They never did figure out what it was. I hope it was not food poisoning. They gave me some pills from the Dr. to help. It did help but did not fix the problem. Hope you feel better soon.

I am so glad to see you back again. Yes, I did get the results and they were negative. One of the meds I take has a side effect. Go figure that one. I feel good emotionally but crappy in other ways.

What a charming name for it. I'm getting a visual here and it ain't pretty. It's a week later so I hope you've managed to turn the tide, so to speak. Did you have any other symptoms...I imagine you would be pretty tired from all the running. Hope you kept your fluids up. Was it a bug from a client? Feel better friend..

The dang thing may be from my meds. Or, perhaps, stress. I am feeling better. Still have the problem. But, I deal with it.

I'm sorry to hear you're having the Hershey Squirts..hehe...love the name...I saw some folks recommended you should drink Gatorade..DO NOT drink that..Gatorade has Brominated Vegetable Oil which has actually been banned in over 100 countries and don't ask the side effects of that...sure hope you haven't been eating tomatoes before all this happened....with all the outbreaks of salmonella or e.coli it's like playing Russian roulette with food.

No tomatoes for me. I can't eat them too often because of the acids in them. I did buy a bottle of G2 today. I am desperate not to get too dehydrated.

Wow, it's not good to have diarrhea for more than a few days. Could be a serious infection or some digestive tract problem. Best wishes with your results. I hope you feel better soon and get some relief.

I hate when that happens we all here I'm sure have experienced it one time or another but not in the way you are that is really bad. I wouldn't have waited that long I would have gone after a week. I hope with the tests that they run they may come up with the reason of why your like this. Hopefully it's just a virus and running it's course that way. Yea it's aweful to have to run in panic like you have to that's gotta be the worst for you. I hope you get some relief soon and can feel better good luck to you take it easy.

wow. That is really gross. I hope that nothing is seriously wrong. Usually taking something or sticking to the BRAT diet would help. You might have the stomach flu or something. Make sure to keep hydrated with Gatorade or even Pedialyte. hope you get better.

I did stick to the BRAT diet for 3 days and still no success. I drink as much as possible without becoming waterlogged!

Hey elusive. When I first saw the title to this discussion I thought it was about a new kind of candy. Seriously! I'm sure there's not a bright side to how awful you must feel. Hopefully you'll be back to normal soon. Just make sure you don't get dehydrated.

I was surprised that he didn't want to see me himself or give me any advise as to how to not become dehydrated. That is one of my main worries at this point.

Oh you poor thing!!! What a way to loose weight! My 7 year old, healthy eater, is battling some kind of stomach pain. Yesterday, I took her to the dr and he said her stomach was soft, she has had no problems with her lower end. So he suggested 1/2 of a pepcid to see if that would work because she is complaining about her stomach being on fire sometimes. She goes back for her well check up in a couple of weeks and if the pepcid doesn't work , then he will order blood tests. This is the kid who will eat fruit over candy. She is a grazer. I feel so bad because I don't know what to do with her. She did good all day today until around dinnertime, and dad came home. Then she started. We decided to try going to the pool and so far so good. She is kept busy so she doesn't have time to think about it. Usually, I don't have any drama with her, she is my trooper. This one really has us puzzled. Have you been anywhere on vacation recently?

I hope the pepcid works for her. Poor little bugger. I haven't been anywhere other than home, work and my kids homes. Time will tell what the culprit is.

That is a long time to be inflicted for! I would be tearing my hair out, especially knowing that I had to go out of the house with it. I dont have it very often but the times that I have had it, it was horrible. I had it while on holiday back in May, self inflicted though, I thought I was clever and took two laxatives instead on one as I was told too. I took two because normally I am so stubborn that nothing works. Anyway, took two and as soon as I ate a meal the following day the meal went straight through and very nearly came straight out the other end. My hubby had to drive me to the toilets like I was having a baby, it was horrible, I just made it! I hope that the doctor can get you sorted real soon.

This would get to me, that's for certain. This length of time is a torture by itself. I've never had this for this long, thank God. What you need to do is fill your mind with the thought of some really incredible food and tell yourself that's where you're at when this is over. You also need to discover the cause of it and avoid this cause, whatever it is, like the plague. Good Luck for 12 more days !
