what are the best ways of getting referrals when your family and friends aren't enough? any ideas?

for me, the best way to get referrals is to simply purchase them.. but i wouldn't do so with my own money, i'd rather wait for payout and use that money to purchase refs.

I'm trying to learn that myself, I've had good results with starreferals. I've gotten some from my blog, you need to get people interested and then maybe they will join your site. I'm still learning
