Difference between windows XP 32 bit version and 64 bit version

My computer have and AMD Athlon dual Core 64 bit processor and I am using 32 bit windows Xp professional. My friends tell me to use 64 bit windows XP that will make my computer run faster. Is it true. Can anyone help me.

64bit XP is design to take advantage of 64bit processor enhancement. 32bit XP run in compatibility mode under 64bit system you are in fact delimiting your system in doing so. Not all applications you installed after Window can take advantage of the 64bit but since these apps rely on an optimized window you could somehow experience a better performance.

Hi dear, To my knowlege there is not any window which specify the bit version. There is only difference among the processor and chip set which specify that it can process 32 bit or 64 bit in a single time... So, there is no role of operating system to make it faster... Thanks, pikesh
