Doctor's Surgery Has No Budget

July 2, 2008 5:15pm CST
I went to the doctor's last week to request some treatment. A lady drove in to my car about a year a go and the insurance company said they would offer no further treatment even though the matter hasn't been concluded. My Doctor advised that the budget had gone and they couldn't open the lists for Physiotherapy because of this. Only serious problems were being considered (backs, sciatic) for the waiting list and advised that she would write a referral for the insurance company. Luckily enough the other person was at fault so at least I know I will be able to get further treatment with her referral. I'm unsure even with sciatic injuries I would have got treatment through the NHS. I was quite surprised. Has anyone else had any experiences such as this?

I guess my first question is what was this lady's limits of liability on her car insurance? IT's quite possible that the insurance company won't pay for any further treatment because the amount of liability has been exhausted. If this is the case you need to get an attorney to sue her for the medical damages. You may never see the money, but at least you have recourse when the creditors come to you saying you owe them.

The insurance company I am with provides legal cover so I have some one working on this. However today (after the Doctor has recommended furtehr treatment) they have asked to settle the case without the furtehr treatment and without increasing the award? What concerns me most is that if I did not have legal cover it would be unlikely that I would be able to get any treatment with my Doctors?

Talk to a lawyer. They will change theri tune for you! Insurance companies hate to pay out. a lawyer will get you the money you need and only take a percentage. Go for it. You are hurt. gte the care you need!

I feel very much that even though I am in the right, that the odds against me with regard to getting fair treatment. Insurers seem to be there to reduce their liabilty rather than look after you!
