I had the most brilliant idea for cell phones

I'm sure there has been a time where everybody has gotten a message on their cellphone while they are busy doing something else and it wouldn't be appropriate to read the message. Maybe you are driving or even just working on something with someone. So either you do the naughty thing and pull out your phone just to make sure or you leave it for later and (if you are like me) forget all about it. There is no way of knowing if it is important or not. My idea is that there should be. Imagine if when sending the message you set how urgently the person on the other end needs to read it and then the other person can know if they need to answer straight away, even by just which ringtone plays. Is my idea awesome? Would it work? Am I blissfully unaware of someone else already doing it?

wow that's a very interesting idea. that's something like an email function already. well there's another function that might help in such situations. certain mobile phones has a message reader. when a new message comes in, you can choose to have it read out loud. it works also for calls from someone in your phone book. i find that it's usuful when i can't read the message due to the task on hand. cheers ;p

The reading out loud thing could work. The idea came to me while I was driving out to meet a group of friends and suddenly I got a message. I had earlier said that if any of them needed a lift they just needed to let me know but I can't safely read a message while driving. Turns out the message could have waited. That read out message thing could be combined with a speech to text thing to write a response and it would be perfect.

yes it's very useful sometimes. but i didn't make use of it often. this is especially so when there are others around. i can't imagine having a mushy message read out loud in front of everyone. that'll be so embarrassing for all present. i usually wait till i'm stopped at a traffic light to see the message. but the dictation part would work especially if you are on the road very often. that's almost like having a personal secretary with you at all times. ;p

It would be nice to set different message alerts, just like specific ringtones, to be attached to certain people so at least you know who the message is from first of all. For me that's all I would need.

I think your different ring tone is bloody brilliant!! If you are in company you don't want things read aloud - that could be really embarresing! haha. But if you could have beethovens fifth for an urgent call and the Beatles 'She loves me' from your wife and 'oh no! here I go again' from your boss. Endless possibilities! Get to the patent office NOW!! haha

There's an online subscription site called Uboot.com-Using their service, you can forward emails from their in-site email program to your phone, and they also had the option of setting the priority level of a message you were sending to someone so that a high priority message would be treated as such and appear directly on the phone screen..the only drawback is,the person had to already be in your address book! The service was German owned, though displayed in English, and may be limited to certain countries that can use it..oh yes-they accept paypal!

I'm not sure if it works with different ringtones, but on my phone when you send a message you can mark it as urgent. So, when the person receives the message they can look at the little window on the face of the phone (if they have one) and see that it says urgent. Like I said, I have no idea mine would make a different ringtone or not. It's possible that they already to that though.
