cultural differences

I'm fascinated by the wonderful differences among cultures in our world, while we all remain alike. Having never been anything other than American, I wonder how people in other countries view what's so basic to us. Do those of you in countries that aren't free yearn for freedom? Do those whose customs require arranged marriages pray for the right to fall in love and choose for themselves? Do those whose stations in life prevent them from moving into another status dream of being something entirely different? We Americans are just arrogant enough to think everyone wants to be just like us. Somehow, though, I suspect that's not true. Please tell all you can.
