I once scared a deer to death. That's right, I scared him so bad he committed suicide. I was driving alone in my car on my way to my hunting grounds in Mississippi. The area where I hunted was located very near the border of Alabama and Mississippi off of Interstate 20 near Kewanee. In fact, you could even hear the truck weigh scales from my stand. On my way, it was necessary to cross an overpass. As I approached the overpass, I saw what I thought was a large dog running down the middle of the road. As I got closer I noticed that it was actually a small, very young, deer. Being the sportsman that I was, I wasn't going to get out of my car and shoot the obviously inexperienced animal, so I decided I would follow to see what he would do. That deer ran right onto the overpass, stopped, looked at me for a second, then jumped about 15 feet to his death below. He landed in a concrete culvert which ran next to the interstate and broke his neck. After calling the local game office to ask them what I should do, they told me to skin him and to prepare myself to enjoy some of the tenderest venison I would ever find. And you know, they were absolutely right. Can you top that one?
