First Jelly of the year, rose jelly. Do you make your own jellies, jams, or

preserves/marmelades? Last year I made my rose jelly with lemon juice, this year, I made it with orange extract. It tastes like orange marmelade. Last year it tasted like lemonade jelly. One year I tried dandelion jelly, but an untimely emergency phone call made me overcook it and it became cough syrup. So have you made any jelly, jams, or preserves yet? We haven't gotten enough strawberries to make any strawberry jam. But we had a little to eat from a few plants. Since there are so many kinds of berries, flowers, apples, fruits, even peppers (jalapeno jelly is very popular here), I was just wondering what kind of jellies everyone makes where they are? (PS, for this discussion, your Mom, Grandma or Pa, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins can also be making jellies and jams, too)

I have made strawberry freezer jam a few times, but that is it. I love Jalapeno Jelly! My sister gave me this stuff once that was called Strawberry Hell. It was strawberry jam with jalapeno in it. I have never found it anywhere since then. Before my grandma passed she used to make jams and jellies all the time with her black raspberries out of her yard.

Freezer jams are kind of a newer take on an old favorite. I freeze some of my jellies when I think they may not last otherwise. I bet if you searched strawberry and jalapeno jelly or jam recipe, there would be something similar on the internet somewhere. Black raspberries, people love the richness of their flavor. Sounds like three really cool homemade jams/jellies. Thank you very much for responding.

I haven't made any this year but in the past I've made grape jelly from juice bought at the store. I've also made raspberry jam from my parents' raspberries. Lemonade jelly sounds good!

We have to make grape jelly before the raccoons get all the grapes. Raspberry jam is one I really, really love. I hope you're able to make some jams/jellies this year. Thank you very much for responding and take care.

Rose hips or Rose haw - Rose hips or rose haw is the fruit or seed pod of the rose and can be used in cooking
I used to make a lot of jams. But since my family really doesn't eat them I stopped. I used to make jam and jellies from the wild fruit that we found around us.Choke cherry is a favorite of mine. I always wanted to do rose hip jam or jelly but never had enough hips to do it with.

I've cut down making the amount of jams and jellies I used to make. Many people have diabetes in my family and the sugar-free stuff seemed to go bad. I didn't have enough mint for mint jelly one year so I found a recipe for mint and apple jelly. People actually liked that better, maybe you can do rose hips and ______ something. It's worth doing an internet recipe search to find out. I love chokecherry, too. Wild stuff is so-o-o-o good! Thank you very much for responding.

I once tried to make a lime marmalade - it was terrible. Then again, I am NOT a cook. I take that back, WAY back in the mid-70's I made some rose something, I think it was to be a jelly, but I didn't like it. I think the former roommate ate some and we finally threw it away.

It's too bad you have such a rough time with cooking. Then again, maybe if I didn't have such a rough time, maybe I wouldn't weigh so much!LOL

I would love to try some of that lemonade jelly! Do you have your own online store where you sell this? You could sell it on Etsy. They have lots of home baked goods over there.

Since it takes a quart of flowers to make two pint jars, no I don't make any to sell. I just had enough last year for one batch and so far one batch this year, but I'm hoping for a second one. Certification and health regulations up here require a second kitchen with everything decontamination capable which means you have to be able to even sanitize the floors, they don't even allow certain kinds of flooring where I live. If I could get a certified kitchen that didn't cost anything and organic or natural flowers besides the few I grow, then it might be doable, but I doubt if it would be profitable, I would have to charge too much money. But thanks, I like your idea, maybe with cheaper and more numerous flowers, like dandelions. Who knows, maybe in the future, take care.
