How Far Would You Travel For Cheap Gas?

Most of the gas stations around where I live are charging between $4.21 and $4.33 for a gallon of gas. There is one station though that's about ten miles from my house that is under $4.00 a gallon. I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to travel the ten miles to fill up my car and if it would save me money. My question is, how far would you travel for cheap gas and how far is too far?

Well my car gets about 18MPG and I have a 15 gallon tank. So being that a round trip is 20 miles it would cost about 4 dollars to make it to that gas station. for a savings of 21cents per gallon I would save on 14 gallons totaling $3.00 in savings. My net loss would be about a dollar. I would defiantly make the trip, a dollar for a nice 20 mile drive, I can deal with that.

I get about 30mpg on the freeway so it would probably only take me 2 gallons round trip if I could find a station selling at $4 a gal. It would be worth it, I think the $4.47 will be going up again.

2/3 of a gallon actually. 2 gallons would get you 60 miles.

That depends on what type of car you have, what kind of gas mileage you get. Most of the gas stations within a 10 mile radius of me are all charging within a few cents of each other, so it really wouldn't be worth the drive since I would have to drive at least 20 miles to find any cheaper, then it would only be a 3 cent savings.

i and my hubby usually fill our fuel from a gas station near to our house as it is on our way home as well... and we fill it during the cheapest day of the week... here in australia, the price of fuel is quite uniform throughout the city and suburbs except in rural areas where the price will a little bit higher... so we never have to travel far away to fill our fuel and it is not worth it for us... take care and have a nice day...

Alot of people will wait in a very long line down the road if the gas is really cheap. As a matter of fact it can be so long they waste more gas sitting their waiting on it.

well, doing the math the money you gona save on gas ,you gona spend latter on fixing and replacing parts on your car,coz your putting mils on the eng.,tires exc exc,and burning oil,so i would say i wont spend more then 2 miles.

Well - this now has me curious. I live probably like maybe between 5 to 10 miles east of you, but I work probably between 5 or 10 miles west of you. It also depends on the gas station, because at times, when it's an unknown brand or very low-priced, there is that possibility that the gas might just be bad / watered-down gas. There is also the possibility that the gas station might have been having a special sale or a grand opening. Low prices will attract a lot of new customers as well.

I would travel a distance of no more than 20 miles round trip to save on gas, unless the savings were really substantial. If it's just to save a couple of cents a gallon it wouldn't really be worth it to me, since I don't have much spare time to begin with and I get only about 20 mpg in town, 24 on the highway. We have a couple of gas stations within 5 miles or so of my house that often have gas for 5 - 10 cents per gallon cheaper than other stations. Those I will generally make the time to drive to, but only when I need to fill up.

I don't see much o a point in travelling too far for cheap gas, because one still needs to burn gas to get there and back, so doesn't that defeat the purpose of traelling

I don't think I would drive more than 2 or 3 miles but it depends on how much cheaper the gas is. You've also got to take into consideration that it would be a 20 mile round trip for you to get the savings. I'm not real good at math but I'm thinking anything you saved would be nullified by the extra gas used to make the trip.

My Petrol tank holds 45L,the low fuel light comes on at about 42 litres gone..(haven't had the nerve to drive it until it ran out to find out how exact that guesstimate is!) A Garage near me has Unleaded posted at £1.25 a Litre.41L@£1.25=£51.25. Another garage 10 miles away is £1.06 a Litre. 41L@£1.06= £43.46 That's a saving of £7.79 per tank. I can get about 420 miles on a full tank, that's about 10 miles a Litre.20 miles=2L=£2.12-I'm still saving over £5 a tank going out of my way That's currently about my limit on range to travel for a fillup...I might consider a spare Jerrycan sometime..

Well since I have to travel just about that far anyway to get gas for my car, then I would have to say yes, I would travel that far, so long as it isn't swarming with cars trying to get in on the deal. If it was packed jam with cars trying to fill up I'd pass that gas station up and go to another, even if it costs a bit more. It just isn't worth it to me to have to wait in a big line to buy gas, just to save a few dollars. If you can do other things in the area, like grocery shopping, then I'd say it would definitely be worth it to travel for gas. If you are just going up to buy gas and go straight home afterwards, then no, I don't think it would not be worth it. To me, that is just wasting fuel.

I suppose if I could fill up my gas tank all the way, then it might be worth the drive. But then again, considering that I'd have to pay for the gas used to travel back home, it might not be worth it. We don't travel too far anyway, daily. And our car is small and barely uses $5.00 weekly in gas, so we aren't really affected by higher gas prices or gas price fluctuations.

I would go where there is gas. One does not save anything by buying gas that is cheaper by a few cents unless one brought a whole tanker and bought the whole place up. I don't have a big budget so I just get gas every other day and this works fine for me. The nearest is the cheapest for me.

I would say that would depend on what kind of gas mileage your car gets and how big your gas tank is. If you get 15 mpg and have a 24 gallon tank, that ten mile round trip is going to use 1 1/2 gallons of gas. If you have 1/4 of a tank, you are going to need 18 gallons of gas to fill up. AT 4.00 a gallon, that is going to cost you 72 dollars. At 4.21 a gallon, it will cost you 75.78 (3.78 less). At 4.33 a gallon, it will cost you 77.94 (5.94) less). If you figure 1 1/2 gallons of gas at the 4.00 that is 6$ in gas to go that extra 10 miles.... so no, it's not worth it in that vehicle. However, if you have a car that gets 25 mpg, you will be using less than one gallon for the round trip, so yes, you would actually save a little bit by going the extra distance for the lower cost. For me, gas in my small town is generally 5 cents higher than the next town over (18 miles from my driveway), which is also where the only grocery store is, so I try to fill up when I get groceries, or am there for something else.

If it wasn't out of my way, I would go 10 miles. Or say I had a reason to go out there for something specific, then why not go out there if I could also buy cheaper gas, know what I mean? For instance, where I live it's about $4.47/gal. If I found out it was much cheaper at a station where I don't normally go, down the hill perhaps (thru the pass on the 15), if I had a reason to go down there other than just the gas, I would do it. It kind of falls under that whole kill two birds with one stone theory. With gas the way it is, I try to make my trips in a circle so that I am not driving back and forth - driving more than I need to, although I would never not drive at all. It's only too far if you wouldn't have any other reason besides just the gas to go. Even if you had to come up with a reason, that would work. LOL!

I wouldn't go more than a few miles out of my way. I check out where the cheapest is on my route to work and stop off there. Currently, its one thats about 8miles away from home but - I 'm going past it anyway. You have to weigh up the cost of getting there against the amount you'll 'save'.
