What is your opinion on taking self-portrait shots? Do you enjoy taking pictures of yourself? Or do you hate the way you look in photos? Would you rather take pictures of yourself, or of other people?
How do you like to take self-portraits? Do you hold the camera and point it at yourself? Do you take pictures using a mirror? Do you use a self-timer? Do you use a remote?
I don't hate taking self-portraits, but I don't especially love it either. I'm not my favorite subject matter, but I'm not really opposed to taking self-portraits the way some people are. And for self-portraits I almost always use a remote control with my camera on a tripod!

For some reason, I find it rather therapeutic to take self portraits at times. I especially love doing reflections in the mirror. These are some I have taken of myself through a smoky antique mirror we have in our house. Other times I go off and pose at a distance and put the camera on automatic timer. I will have to see about a remote as it seems that would make it much easier for some shoots.
I very much prefer this to having someone take the picture for me as well... I am very picky about how I appear in photographs and prefer to be the judge as to what pictures are worth saving and showing to people. I hate it when other people (such as family members) like a photo of me that I find absolutely hideous and start showing it off to people (you'd think I'd be over that as I get older but I guess not...) Also, I get to re-take it as many times as I want until I am happy with the end result without feeling like I am imposing my obsessiveness on someone else.
Sometimes I enjoy taking pictures of other people, but it depends on the occasion and the atmosphere, as I very much prefer for my photos to be well-thought out and timed well. I don't mind candids as long as they come out with a kind of uniqueness or intrigue - which is the kind of mood I like to evoke in my artworks in general, photography being no exception. And I have to be in the right mood to take pictures of anything, myself included. I don't enjoy being summoned by people to take lots and lots of pictures of them...
So yes, I do like taking pictures of myself. And let me assure you, I am not anywhere near as crazy as this makes me sound!

It's funny my Aunt just wrote me a letter asking me for a recent photo of me, but I don't plain don't have any save a few years ago, when yes, took some self-portraits. It was quite a set up to do too. I placed my camera on a tripod. I placed the camera in front of a mirror and marked off the area of where I'd be sitting in front of the mirror..I placed a background behind me...think I used the self-timer device, or may have had a gizmo, like a remote...
Here's one of the photos I did of myself

I love taking pictures and that includes myself. Most of the time I like my pictures to be taken by me cause I can manipulate the outcome more. I have a long patience when it comes to taking pictures of others and mine.
I use my hand at most or use a times. I don't really like using mirror cause it limits your angle.

Well, yea sometimes I love taking self-portraits, but it really depends on my mood. I usually take pictures using a mirror and I think it's funner this way. But to be honest, I don't especially love looking at mylot in the pictures.

I hate taking my own photo, I actually hate having my picture taken full stop but it is worse to take my own photo! I want some photos of me to put on some web sites but I take them and they are just never right! I love to take photos of other people though, especially of my children.

I hate how I look in the photos taken of me by other people. But mostly because they never trully care I will look in the photo (especially if it's a group photo and a candid to that...). When I'm taking pictures of myself I'm very aware of myself. I take one test photo to see how I look and then I adjust myself to the light and the camera positioning and take another shot and another untill I'm happy weith the outcome. In some way I like working with myself as a photographer better than working with other people... But I dont do all that many selfportraits anyway :P

I can't stand pictures of myself. Never have liked them even when I was young. Years ago I belonged to a chat site that required everyone post a picture of themselves. First off I don't care for my own photos, plus I don't like using my own photos on the net for security reasons. So I found a pic of a model and posted it as me. LOL I chatted there for years with no one knowing the difference one way or another.

I just don't like pictures in general. I just tend to look bad in pictures, or smile funny, or do something weird to embarass myself. Self portraits are OK, because at least you can keep taking pictures until they look good. :). But I would rather not take any at all, and I would be happy with that. I usually just take the camera and point it at myself, but I have a camera where I can fold the screen so where I can see how the picture is going to turn out, so its good.
I don't use a timer or a remote, but I bet it woul dmake it a heck of alot easier.
