I just came back from a seminar about finding work here in Canada. I was surprised in what I found out regarding the available jobs in the market. According to the presentation, there are only 20 % full-time positions available and the 80 percent consists of the part-time, contract positions. I finally knew why most of the jobs posted in newspapers and job boards are mostly contracts. What are your thoughts? Just Curious, SFC

employers are just avoiding the burden that comes with hiring fulltime employees. that includes social security, tax, retirement fund, insurance (health, medical, etc.). obviously if you're on a part time basis, they can eliminate this burden.. and if you're in a contract basis, no job, no salary... i think sometimes this is an advantage... you have tons of opportunity to learn in different organizations, manage your own finances (insurance, social security, etc). although this will definitely be difficult but you can manage your time and the amount of salary you want to take monthly. it can be tiresome, but its gratifying sometimes. i like the challenge...

that sounds about right to me, when there are contract positions employers do not have to pay benefits, like insurance etc, and they stand to gain more.

yup u r rite...full time jobs are hard to find..and according to me..the reason is..when u hire a person on a full time job..u`ve got to pay him for that many fixed hours...but the work done remains almost the same as in part time..so..the company pays lesser for part time workers as compared to full timers...thas y they prefer part timers....what s ur say?
