I think it depends on how much space you have, how much time and money you have to dedicate to a pet. I prefer dogs.

I think what makes a better pet, Is when you have more than one pet. Not only do you get to have many pets to enjoy and take care of, but it also makes fun the challenge of teaching them all how to get along. The first day you wake up to see your cat sleeping on the dogs paws, as they just watch your frog swimming around in a bowl as your clean their tank not messing with them, or trying to get at it.
