are you a carrot, egg, or coffee bean?

I read this in the papers today and thought it was meaningful enough to share with all my lotter friends.
The story was about trials that we face in life being akin to being dumped into boiling water.
So we can choose to be a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean. When the carrot is boiled, it's initially tough hard exterior becomes broken down to something fragile and soft. This refers to people who get shattered by hard times.
The egg gets hardened inside and this refers to people who become cynical after going through trials.
The coffee bean, on the other hand, retains its intrinsic nature, does not change in consistency, but rather flavours the boiling water around it. Instead of weakening under pressure, it emanates strength and dissipates aroma and changes the circumstances that surround it.
Don't you think this is meaningful? how can you apply it to your life and future times of trial? :)

Right now, I am more of an egg (trying to be a coffee bean).
I used to trust people a lot but after a few bad experiences, I find it difficult to open up my heart to trust people. I also find it hard to share with people about my life. I think that would make me an egg.

sometimes it does feel safer not to open our lives up too much to others until we are sure we can trust them! :)

yes i've seen that in my email before. prior to your discussion, i didn't really think about it. but now that i'm asked which one i am, it really brings home the question. i would love to say i'm a coffee bean but that's certainly not true. i think i'm more of the egg. i've became more cynical over the years. i've trusted and was betrayed. it just seem so hard to learn to trust again.
guess i'll have to at least try to be a 'tea leaf egg'. have you tried walking past places that sell those? the aroma is really heady. maybe i'll be one and dissipate aroma to my surroundings too. ;p

definitely not a carrot for me.. I'm half an egg and half coffee bean.. Because i'm strong in my stands when i've been thru hard times but i'm not able to change people's opinion and attitude to be the same as me.. haha

well,this is a very good way to analyse things we go through in life ,for me i think therearebasically two of these situations that applies to me and that is the egg and then the coffee bean i never allow situations to break me down i try as much as i can to stay strong in all situations
