We always hear the expression fighting like cats and dogs and they say that this expression refers to how cats and dogs behave around each other. Put a cat among dogs or with a dog and more often than not you will witness a great rumble with both the cat and dog growling, barking, fighting and spitting at each other.Have you dogs and cats that are friends and live and eat together in your home?

It depends on how they're raised. I know many dogs and cats who get along. I have several friends who have both with no problems at all. You can teach them to get along. You don't need to have feuds in your own house.

Thanks. I really tried to make them all get along but it's a riot everytime i try to put out the cat and I am afraid it would not just be the cat that would be mauled since its claws are also very sharp and it has defended itself before. It's really getting so that We all are careful that the kittens do not go near the dogs since even the mere sight of them sets off the dogs to howling, barking and other violent reaction. i have even resorted to tying them up during the daytime or placing them in their cages. The dog that gets along with my cat I guess had no choice but to do so since it is an outcaste to the other dogs and stays in the house the whole time.

Greetings! We are the owners of 4 cats and a malamute. Everyone lives pretty harmoniously....especially given the fact that our malamute just showed up one day around 3 years ago and refused to leave...she is around 7 years old and she adjusted to the cats. It's all about being a pride leader and a pack leader...setting the tone for the two breeds to both understand the limitations you set are the ones that will be followed. That sounds really great and is true but I must admit it is much like a kindergarden here as we live in a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 townhouse. The weather here in Mississippi is very humid and hot therefore although the animals go out they mainly reside indoors. It's all in how you set the tone! Good Luck!

maybe, they are not by nature best friend of each other. but i saw some of them make a close relationship. i saw some photos that show a dog and a cat closely sleep peacefully.

yes, indeed there are some exceptions like one of my dogs with my cat but these are rare. Generally, they seem to be natural enemies. Thanks for sharing.

i personally have never had a cat and a dog at the same time, but i have known of a lot of cats and dogs that live happily together, sometimes they just tollerate each other but i have seen some that are really loving and affectionate to one another. at the end of the day it all depends on the individual animals in question, they are like people really, some get along where some dont.

I have a dozen dogs, big ones at that but I have one that is not so big. I also have a cat. Whenever the cat happens to have forgotten not to cross the yard, all my dogs start chasing after her and you can imagine the riot, noise and confusion. Fortunately for the cat, it is always able to spring up to the roof. One of my dogs, the smaller one, has to stay inside the house as the other dogs would attack it if it went outside. This dog and my cat stay together and when the cat gave birth, the kittens slept with the dog which acted as if it were the father. Anyone who sees them can't believe it.Thamks for sharing
