What security apps do you use?

I have my own computer in our home and a dsl connection. I am aware that threats are a real danger over the internet (and from other computers too). So I would like to know what security applications do people here in mylot use?

very importantly you should have an anti virus...i've got a norton anti virus..its very effective..it protects tour computer from all kinds of viruses,,

I don't use any Norton-related products, it slows my computer considerable. I am content at using Avast and some other security applications available over the net,but I read reviews first as a precaution. Other than what do you use?
