A woman bought a picture of a flower for $10 at a flea market and found the "handwritten manuscript of "America" (My Country 'tis of Thee) tucked behind the picture". It could be worth tens of thousands of dollars! You hear stuff like this all of the time! People finding rare things in attacs and such. How cool! This one is a piece of our country's history! http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/03/flea.market/index.html

I know and I wonder how the heck do these people do it??? Then there's me, did you ever read my story about the time I went to a garage sale and I'm in the garage looking through all this stuff I thought was junk when this man comes around the corner of the garage and says, "Lady what the hell are you doing?" Turned out it wasn't a garage sale he was moving. I wanted to die.

She is an extremely luck person. Although I do browse flea markets from time to time I was never able to find a rare antique.

Hi estherlou! I have heard stories like that before and I do think those people get so lucky. Buying an antigue or old things at a very low price and end up having in your possession that is very valuable. Wow, some people can get lucky indeed! Take care and God bless!

the only thing that I have seen in flea markets around here is a bunch of junk nothing more than that, but that was mighty lucky of her to find though.

I bet the vendor is kicking his/herself over this since they had no clue about the hidden worth of that picture. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... More like $10,000 worth of words in this case.

I have always loved shopping at flea markets, matter of fact I'm going to be headed to one here in a little bit. I have never been so lucky as to find anything that rare or valuable. I guess the only thing I bought that comes close was a small wood scoop, carved from a solid piece of maple, I paid .25 cents and when I looked it up, it was worth $25.

I keep hoping that will happen to me, but when I buy junk at auctions, it's generally junk.

And I know a woman that bought a pearl necklace and the owner must of thought it was junk, because she got it for $2.00. She then wore it a couple times and people told her it looked like real pearls so she should get it checked. So after about a year she finally took it to get appraised to find they were real and worth $2,000. Well, she was elated. But I said if she doesn't sell them, then they are only worth the $2.oo she paid for them. Just kidding. I wish I was so lucky to find such treasures at garage sales and flea markets. I go to them quite often but I usually only end up buying books. But I do check more closely now to other items just in case I see something that is worth more, but then How would I know. This is a true story as the woman is my mother. She still has the pearls but now she doesn't wear them anymore.

Yeap it happens. Something a lot more common is you buy a picture and the frame is worth 10X the amount of what the picture is worth. Lucky ones. Zelo

I love shopping at flea markets. You can actually find a lot of treasures in these places not to mention some really cheap items. Yeah, flea markets are often crowded and noisy but they are really great places to shop.

Flea markets are just like second hand stores the things you find there, you will not find in regular stores now a days. Sometimes you find good deal at them too and you can't beat that. I know that lady that brought the picture had no idea what she purchased. But I bet she is glad that she did.
