for an advanced degree? Would you ever think someone to old to return to school? Would you encourage someone to return to school even if they were approaching forty or were over forty? Just wondering,. also is their any career fields requiring college you would discourage an older college student to try to go into. what are your thoughts on these matters.

No one is ever too old to be back in school. I teach in a university here in our city and I have had students who were twice (or more than that) my age. I salute them for giving school another chance. Two of them are retired US Navy. When they came home to the Philippines, they decided to pursue a college degree. That's great right? I think that for as long as they are mentally, physically and emotionally ready to take on the challenge of college life, they can do it!

Thank you for saying this because but it is encouraging. Because I have decided to go back to school and since I have always wanted to go into medicine I am planning on working towards that, I feel like that would be a good fit for me, nothing else I have ever thought of doing or trying has ever held my attention as well as medicine does. It may be because I have had so much experience with doctors and hospitals, or maybe it is because I can see where I spend a large percentage of money, LOL But no seriously, I am also interested in some other things that a degree in medicine would work well with, so I think now that I am at a point in my life where I need to change some things I will focus on the things that will be most helpful to the other goals I have in life. You have been an encouragement to me, I will have to to work really hard on my writing skills and math so I will be first taking extra non credit classes in those subjects so that when I take for credit classes my grades will be better, because I do want to do well.

Nobody is ever too old to learn. I hope to be able to afford further education, myself, when retirement allows me time to do so. When we stop learning, we stop living!

That is the one major problem is affording to go to school it feels like everything just cost so much, I am hoping that I can apply for and recieve several grants hopefully enough so as to at least complete my associates this coming year. I only lack a few credits to do that. Then I can start on my next set of classes I believe a bachelors comes next,.

I truly wish you luck. No matter how you have to fight for it, there's financial aid available for everyone. Check with the financial aid office of the institution(s) you would like to attend, and they'll be able to help you. Even your local high school counselors can recommend excellent sources of aid. The internet will lead you to liteally hundreds of sources of financing, too.

There is nothing like age limit to go and visit your old college, you can just go and visit even if you have grand children. I don't see anything like that, comming to the point when i was studying in my school which was 81 years old there used be some old people who were walking around the jogging track and we used to think that they were some local people or so but we later found out that they were old friends and old students of our school and they stay far away from school but still manage to hang out there. Its really inspiring. Good Luck.

That is really neat that they are able to still go see each other and it is inspiring when you see others who have continued to engage in life even though past the typical ages of others who are doing the same things,

I am glad to hear that especially as I have just turned 39 and I sometimes feel very old.
