Split or Steal?

In UK where I live, there is a gameshow on tv at teatime that is pretty good. Without making this long winded, the aim of the game is that the contestants all have goldenballs with money amounts in and the contestants have to get through to the final with their money balls. Only two contestants go through and whichever two contestants go through, whatever money balls they have are added up and that is the amount of money that they are playing for. In the final both contestants pick balls to either bin or win, and each ball determines the money amount, but there are also balls called killers and these can affect the amount of money by making it go down. SO, when this is done and they have picked all the balls they have the amount of money that is at stake which could be a little or a lot, THEN, the two contestants have to decide whether to split or steal the money. If they both pick to split, they share the money, if one splits and one steals, then the one who steals takes all the money leaving the other with nothing. If they both steal they get nothing. So if you were a contestant in this game and the money prize was a good one, lets say for fun Forty grand in either english money or dollars, what would you do? SPLIT or STEAL?
