The News: Redknapp's final offer is said to be 10 million pounds - a slight increase on the offer he had rejected last week but significantly far off Rafa Benitez's 15 million asking price. The Portsmouth manager has made no secret of his desire to bring Crouch to the club but believes that 15 million is too steep for a player with only 12 months remaining on his contract. Portsmouth chied executive Peter Storrie said: "Harry has made it clear he wants Peter Crouch. He's the sort of quality we want to add. We're not giving up." Redknapp's interest in Crouch began following a contract tow with Nwanko Kanu who wanted a two-year extension to his contract while Portsmouth were only offering 12 months. Tottenham were also reported to have joined the race to sign Crouch using life-long Liverpool fan Robbie Keane as a bargaining tool. However, Portsmouth are still leading the race as Juande Ramos has said in no uncertian terms that losing Keane is not a option, preferring to instead let Darren Bent and Dimitar Berbatov go. Sean Wright-Phillips has moved up on Readknapp's target listing followng Newcastle's signing of Jonas Gutierrez in who that Portsmouth manager had previously shown an interest. However, luring Wright-Phillips away from Chelsea will be no easy feat for Redknapp, who, although he can offer the England player more first-team appearances than he may get at Chelsea, Wright-Phillips' 60,000-pounds-a-week pay cheque is a significant obstacle. So far Redknapp has only added former Reading player Glen Little and on-loan Ben Sahar from Chelsea to his squad. Currently on holiday the manager has said: "I think we need for more players. "I'd like a wide player because we are short in that area. I know the players I like but getting them is another thing."

If Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp managed to get lanky Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, it will be very interesting for the team's strike force for the new season. Crouch and Jermaine Defoe partnership will surely cause troubles to other Premiership defenders. Compliment by wingers Niko Kranjcar and John Utaka, I believe Portsmouth can push towards a top 6 finish for the new Premier League season. Just get rid of Kanu though, he's old and injury-prone, not worth paying high salary for him.
