Yes - HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to all Americans. The 4th of July is a significant day in history because it was the begining of America and many new ideals that have benefited the world were also born on this day.
I've not always been a fan of American policies and I sometimes dispair at the level of ignorance that many Americans display of the world beyond their own small towns. But having said that, I think America has been one of the most significant moments in history. It was the first time when a country was born on the basis of the right of individuals to achieve happiness.
Former British Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd often describes America as the most benevolent superpower known to man. Yes, the USA has done things that are not always good. But by and large, this is a nation and a people that has done allot of good for humanity - for that I bless the 4th of July.

I'm late with this one, but I hope you had a great independence day. I am Canadian, but my husband is American, so we celebrate Canada day July 1, and independence day. I love myLot, because there are people from all over the world on here, who can tell us all about their national holidays.
