Design blogspot

I don't know anything about web design. But I want to maintain a blogspot page. But the problem is that I don't like the default format of blogspot design. which shows folder like tree (e.g. 2008 then june, july). So what I am asking that how can I design my blogspot page so I can put menus & sub menus. I also want to fill my unused spaces with adsense ads. Is there any software for designing blogspot?
