Do you have a hyper child who studies you and uses your weaknessess to terrorize or manipulate you? How about the 3 or 4 year old who refuses to go to school in the morning. What do you do about the tantrums?

1 Build positive relationships - they often have no friends. 2 Avoid teasing and sarcasm - they don't understand this. 3 Correct one-on-one and not in front of others. 4 Set clear and well-defined boundaries. 5 Provide frequent breaks. 6 Give instruction on time. 7 Provide a calm environment-they respond to soft light and being on the floor. 8 Let them touch and feel things. 9 Establish a set of signals no one else knows that you can use to get them back on track. 10 Look for positive things to offer him/her. 11 Use affirming words. 12 Show love and acceptance.

I'd try to find out why my child doesn't want to go to school. Is it the environment he/she doesn't like....or is it the fact that he/she doesn't like being separated from the parents....there are so many reasons. I would try to find the cause and then find a solution. Being a kindergarten teacher, I find that some children who have separation anxiety refuse to go to school in the morning...but once they are at school, they are fine.

I had a hyper son...he is two years old now. He is always moving, always playing, but if he gets tired he will sleep in the bed on his own. Sometimes he is still awake until 1:00 in the morning and playing. It happened rarely.
