I personally think that there are too many risks involved in having a baby once you are over 40 years of age. The chances of miscarrying are really high and you would need to be monitored day in and day out throughout the pregnancy to make sure all was going ok as there is extra risk of high blood pressure and developing preeclampsia. It would also be a lot harder for someone over 50 to cope with the physical stress of being pregnant. Then there's also the moral issues revolving older parents. People always say that it would be cruel to bring a child into this world when you are older because the likelyhood is that you will not be around for the great majority of their life. This is just what I have read.

I think it's their time to become a grandmother , not a mother. It's a huge age gap when the child gets older, and ultimately the child is going to have to deal with losing their parents sooner, as well as missing out on activities with their parents as they are too old to physically handle it.

I completley agree.. Im 25 and my mom is 52 I cant imagine having a brother or sister , let alone by time the kids my age my mother would be 75 years old and thats if theres no health or freak accidents, then now me and my brother are responsible and she or he wouldnt understand lossing thier mother at such a young age, I think theres alot of factors here youd have to take in to concept? And why would you wait that long any ways to have a child?

If a woman over 50 is determined to have one, then id say go for it. But i would make sure they knew ALL of the risks associated with it. For starters HEALTH, a female (unlike the male reproducing oragnisms which replenish every day) is already born with all of her eggs, so as she grows up the eggs just sit their getting older and older as well, which is why its scientifically healthier for a woman between 16 and 20's to have children with less of a risk of problems. By 50, the chances that a baby born would have such problems and defects such as down syndrome would have skyrocketed, and considering the age and having less energy to devot to a normal child, imagine beng that age and having to take care of one with problems possibly mentally or physically or both. Another important factor would be the womans body as well, is she healthy and active enough to withstand the pressure it will put forth on her, blood pressure risks which could lead to heart attack risks, theirs just a whole slew of problems that could occur, sure theyre are always problems no matter what the age but as you get older those chances beome frightingly slimmer, and more likely to happen.

there's risks no matter the age but when the kid is 10 the mother will be 60 and probably will have trouble keeping up with the lil bundle of energy lol

Yes there are health risks. Me, personally, I would not want to risk it. Besides you would have such an age gap as the child grew up, you would not be able to do all the things that younger moms can do with their children.

it depends on the woman. there may be health risks and there may not be but she should think about the child's health and feelings first.

Yes I feel 50 is too old to have children. It's not fair to them as the grow up and you are also getting to the age of retirement. You should enjoy that time of life for yourself and keep healthy. Having children when you are older is a very big health risk.

its a great gift for them. Even there are so many persons are not having a single child in their life. it shows its all god's gift for them. so its not a problem for me.It shows their love and affection at this age also. Some health problem may arise.

ofcourse. It is too old to give birth to a child after 50. It may affect the baby. A child of old father or mother may not lead a healthy life. It may even affect the health of the mother to give birth to a child at the age of 50. Hormones like oestrogen may not be at optimal levels at that age, which may make it difficult for the mother to carry the foetus in the womb.

I am totally against a women who is 50 years old should give a birth to a child. It is too dangerous for her health as well as the child's. The child could also he physically or mentally handicapped. Do you think that a women over 50 would be able to raise a child or will she have that much energy as she would have had if she would have given birth at 25 or 30. I think so that a women so old should adopt a child instead

I think that she should take into consideration the risks..but I am sure there have been women older then fifty having children. For example..Here is link to a 62 old woman in Britain that has had a baby: http://www.boston.com/news/odd/articles/2006/07/09/62_year_old_british_woman_gives_birth/

I think it is not good to have babies when u are over a certain age. There are the issues of agegap and health: risks for both mother and baby. And the ethics too. For example in Romania we have the oldest mother on earth: she became mother when she was 67. I think this it totally immoral. Poor baby!!!
