A Very Strange Day - The Police Have Done An Incredible Job

Someone I know who rides a motorcycle had been missing since last Tuesday and their father informed the police as his company had phoned him to say he hadn't been into work. They checked all the local hospitals and any reports of accidents but to no avail, they broke into his house to see if he was there, no. They put a nationwide search out for the reg of the bike, no joy. Two days ago a farmer spotted a bike down the back of his field and just thought it was parked there for someone walking in the woods but he spotted it still there the next day and reported it to police. The police came and impounded it and done a check thinking it was stolen. It turned out that this was the bike of the missing man. I received a postcard in the post this morning saying they were seeking peace and they were going to fly with angels. I telephoned the police. They sent a search party into the wooded area and a police dog sniffed him out in the woods still ALIVE weak but ok. He was sectioned under the Mental Health Act as very depressed obviously, but is safe.
I would like to thank all the police forces involved for linking together as finding him before he had harmed himself. A good job was done.
Do you know anyone that has been rescued by any of the services? Would you like to give thanks to them?
Ps: I didn't know this person was missing until I phoned the police on receipt of this card this morning so if you had received something like that would you have phoned them?
Two separate forces actually phoned me back to say he had been found and in the area I gave the postmark from. Although under the Data Protection Act they couldn't tell me who else had reported him missing ie his father, but they phoned the father who then phoned me to give full story.

How sad, and what a horrible shock for you, ellie. Thank goodness you called the police straight away, or this story might not have had such a happy ending. Hopefully your friend will now get the help he needs, and I hope he makes a full recovery. Those police dogs are absolutely amazing!

Hi Guybrush, I know I have had some suprises in the post lately but this one was a shock one really. He is now getting help which is the main thing and his father rang me as the police had told him I had also called he is more aware of the problems his son is going through too. Police, mountain rescue dogs are all amazing creatures, they do such an excellent job I agree. Ellie :D

It sounds like you did a good thing by calling. I'm glad this person is going to be safe and cared for, because it sounds like he's very troubled. I'm sure his family was in pieces over this, and it's terrific that they were able to pick up the pieces and work together to find him.

Oh my Ellie it must have been awful to have gotten that postcard and so worrying! I am really pleased that you did contact the police otherwise who knows what might have happened! I have to say that I most probably would have done the same if I did not have teh contact info for any of their family and I hope if I am ever tested in this way I would be as quick to do the right thing as you were. I know a lot of policemen and some are fantastic and do a brilliant job - like any other profession they do have people that don't care but I believe they are in the minority and I am so pleased that you didn't run into any of those and that there was such a good outcome in this situation! xxx

I did try contacting the sister but have since found out that she is away on holiday so my only option was to phone the police. I am glad that all was resolved well in this situation and they are now getting help for this extreme depression. The police done an excellent job and listened rather than say he is an adult and we don't want to know which I guess could have been said as all I had was farewell postcard but I stressed that they were suffering problems with their mental health and had never done anything like this before so it was taken seriously thankfully. The police often get stick but whenever I have had to deal with them they've been pleasant and exactly what I didn't expect! Whilst it may be true that many of them avoid real danger by doing easier jobs, a lot still do a very good job and I think we often forget that!

Hi, I am pleased that they found him and he is getting medical attention now. I can understand you not sharing on here as too personal. He is the type of person that does enjoy the countryside but tells people when he is going away and does so during his days off from work and holiday periods, but he just never showed for work or contacted or anything and they phoned his father as they were concerned initally that he may have had an accident and it went from there really. Wow, what a heart-warming story. This is the sort of thing that makes us appreciate our emergency services. I don't know any similar stories but I have the utmost respect for the police - in all my dealings with them now and in the past I have very proud of living in a country where the police are so effective. Years ago my parents were victims of an armed robbery at their post office and the police were so helpful and friendly and tracked down the armed robbers the same day and they were all sentenced! Most recently someone tried to break into our flat and the police arrived within 5 minutes of the phone call. They even came around and fitted us with free anti-break in devices for all of our windows which was really comforting as we were quite shaked by the break in attempt. We were also contacted several times by Victims Support to see if we needed any counselling.

Hi Anonymili, These stroies are just so encouraging to hear. I am so sorry that your parents and yourselves have had to experience these events but it is comforting to know that support is offered in these situations and what a great job the police done in finding and managing to achieve sentences for these robbers.
We are indeed very lucky to live in a country with such a good network of emergencies services, I agree. Ellie :D

Yes I would have phione the police..
I have found here many times they have been too late.
The police are just starting to take serious matter
seriously! The scariest thing is when woman are in
danger from domestic abuse. They slap a restraint order on
the guy but this doesn't scare a man that wants to kill
the woman and do himself in! How to stop someone that want
to die anyway..they have nothing to loose!
Thank God he was found in time!

Thanks Raydene, yes it was lucky that he was found in time and the police took my call very seriously. I understand what you are saying about men who have restraint orders and actually in the past press the panic alarm of my friends to proof to her she still wasn't safe from him, it tokk twenty minutes for them to arrive in which time he could have killed her, she moved then once she realised she was still in danger from him by being where he know she was. I have helped many a woman into a refuge in the middle of the night. Ellie :D

I'm so glad your friend has been found safe Ellie adn I'm hoping that with some help he'll beat the depression.
This is a really heartwarming story. You hear so many stories knocking the police, and people tend to forget about all the incredible work like this that they do.

Hi Yes GreenMoo we do tend to hear a lot of negatives re the police in fact I for one felt they concentrated more on car offences than catching criminals but they really came through in this instance so I have to eat humble pie there for the earlier thought and thank them immensely for the good job that they did. Deep story. Some people really need to get back to nature worse than others at this point in time. I might be being judgemental and if so I apologize in advance. The post card stated seeking peace and wanting to fly with angels. What a better place to go but to the mountains to search for peace and fly with angels. We all have indingenous roots and with the world they way it is I can understand a bit where hes coming from. Hope the people he is with now treat him as if they are Angels. Take care thanks for a profound post, something to think about. Sincerely David.

Hi David, I can understand what you mean by going to the mountains to do this but there was other stuff written and it was definitely a goodbye but too personal to post. On the top of Glastonbury Tor I have the same feeling of peace and of flying but this was different. I also agrre that more people are trying to get back close to nature and away from the built up areas and the general rat race of life, he probably needs to do that too but sick at the moment too. Oh my... I don't think I could have kept my head if I had received those words on a postcard. Still, the signs are that he wanted to be found and rescued before he really harmed himself. It's like a cry for help, my friend, and you did well to report it so quickly.
Ok, the police did a commendable job on this, but without your quick thinking it might not have turned out the way it did. Well done, my dear friend. You deserve some praise here!!! xxx

Hi Darkwing, When it arrived I was a little bit taken aback I must admit but a niggle told me to phone the police no matter how crazy I sounded as at the time I wasn't aware they were even missing but it was a good job I did as everything was taken seriously when I said they had been depressed and this was out of character, I suppose credit goes to their line manager who initally reported when he didn't show for work to his father as this also was unusal, but they are getting the help they need now which is the main thing eh! Ellie you also did a fantastic job as your info evidently
led them to the poor man,and I am so glad that they found
him in time to save him. I do not know anyone personally who has been rescued but I would thank them anyway for the great job that they do. that was nice of them to phone you back like
that but they probably appreciated your calling them about the postcard too.

Hi Hatley, Yes it was a great job done by all. The police do do a great job but sometimes we don't realise it as all we see are them stopping motorists a lot of the time but I suppose they have to do the mundane everyday stuff too eh! I am pleased that this person is now getting the help they need. Ellie :D

Wow, a good ending to a sad case. I've never been in such a situation, but yes I would have phoned and reported the clue if I had any information. I think its great the way the utilize dogs in searches these days. Dogs can find people from scent whereas a human can't. :)
