hey qhwater, I'm Chinese but i live and was born in Canada. I've been to china twice, and its a really awesome place to to be. For some reason i don't really have any Chinese friends, just a few Koreans and other types of Asian. I love China a lot of cool things are made their and a lot of important things where made there. It's just kinda pissing me off how a bunch of blue collared rubes are trying to stop the Olympics in China. Like they're saying certain things about pollution and other stuff, but i still don't see what that has to do with the Olympics. I think some people are just taking every chance they can to blame China for something because they're intolerant xenophobs. I also thing a lot things that people see negative about China aren't really connected to China that much. China isn't perfect but there is a lot of stigma against China thats based on some things that aren't true. W/e people say i don't really pay much attention to, cuz i know China's just that awesome people get jealous.

thanks for posting, aznblood! yes, there are many people trying to disturb China. that's because they are jealous of China's development and do not want China to be powerful. i do believe those people will not have good result.

I am American and not Asian. I have been to China twice, for about two weeks each time. I have read a lot about China. I have known a few people from China. I think China's history and monuments are amazing and fascinating. I was SHOCKED to see a Starbucks INSIDE the Forbidden City. Starbucks is EVERYWHERE! I think China is making a lot of rapid progress in the last 10 or 15 years in the areas of quality of life, citizens rights, modernization, child welfare, and education. I met and saw many happy and friendly people and only a few who were not so nice to "foreigners". The sense of community and responsibility to one another and society that is obvious even in large cities is very nice. I like that. I liked seeing families working together and grandparents with their grandchildren, but felt sad knowing that so many grandparents have only one grandchild to share among four of them. The pollution in the cities is terrible in my opinion. I was sad to learn that the government is encouraging more people to buy cars, because this could create a lot more pollution and everyone will suffer for it if environmental protection and controls are not put in practice. Overall, I felt safe walking around and shopping and mostly saw clean streets and neat shops, many interesting people, and many interesting foods!

Hi Qhwater, I'm a Chinese, but not from China. I've been to China, namely Shanghai,Wuxi, Nanjing, Soochow, Hangchow..and a few other places whose names I've forgotten. My first impression of China was - many, many people and bicycles! I'd very much like to visit Beijing, especially the Great Wall and Forbidden Cities, and Xian where the Terra-Cotta warriors are.
