Have you ever taken a picture of lightning. I have always found lightning to be fascinating and, while watching an electrical storm (from somewhere that is both safe and dry) the streaks of lightning seem to be visible for many seconds. However, whenever I have tried to photograph lightning using a regular point and shoot camera the lightning is gone before I can even aim the camera, let alone snap a picture. However, while photographing fireworks at a Fourth of July celebration with video (which can be seen here http://hubpages.com/_shamrocks/hub/town-of-maranas-4th-of-july-fireworks-celebration ), I did capture some good video shots of lightning and was able to grab a still photo from the video using Microsoft Movie Maker. What experiences have you had photographing lightning?

I remember reading that when using a film camera may photographers would point the camera and take a long exposure. That is why you see so many lightning shots at night. You now know the feeling of catching that one great shot.
