I had Ambition,by which sin The Angel's fell; I climbed and, step by step, O Lord, Ascended into Hell. W. H Davies, Ambition I really like this quote. It is in the front of a Julie Garwood book I just started reading called Mercy. I believe a certain amount of ambition is a good thing, but when people start wanting it all and doing anything to get to the top, then ambition is ruling their life and it's no longer good.

That quote is heavy. I've always thought ambition was a positive attribute. Now, I'm not so sure. Thanks for sharing this W.H. Davies quote. I shared this with my husband, a true intellectual, and he went ape--he loved this one!

LOL, that's cool. I'm glad you both liked it. I love reading quotes and sometimes find one that I really like, such as this one. If I find any more I will share them here too.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I've seen what overly ambitious people do to others and it's just plain nasty. Some people will do whatever it takes, and ruin the lives of others in the process sometimes, to get to the "top". These people, in my opinion, will never be "successful". They may have a big title and make a lot of money, but they are certainly not a 'success'. They either have no conscience, or they can't stand living with themselves. Either way, they lead a very sad and lonely life. I consider myself a success. I got where I am without ever stepping on anyone's toes... never pushed anyone out of the way to get here... never said an unkind word or lied about someone else to become what I am. I like myself. I have friends and family who love me. That's what success is all about in my opinion. That really is an excellent quote! Thanks so much for sharing it.

You are very welcome. I just happened to notice it when I started the book and thought it was a great quote.

Ambition was the tragic flaw in many of Shakespeare's tragic heroes. It doen't take much reading, though, to realize this goes in an entirely different direction. When we encourage ourselves and others to be ambitious, we're asking that goals be established and pursued. It's So very different! If ambition is your undoing, you've just gone way, way too far with it!

So true. You said what I was trying to say, only better..lol. I love reading quotes because they often make a person think about things differently.
