I've only known one really mean cat in my life. He belonged to a friend of mine. Actually she was my best friend and we were close as sisters. He was one of the meanest cats I've ever known. Not sure why he had such a grudge against me. Must have been jealousy. At the time, I didn't have cats, so I didn't understand their possessive nature. I do now! Have you ever known a really mean or spiteful cat?

well i've not met any mean cat in my life. i've had my fair share of unfriendly cats though. i frequent a local cat shelter and there i met the most unfriendly cat in my life. she was found beside her mother's body on a rainy day. her mother was hit and killed by a car. she is very unfriendly to everyone and scratches anyone who tries to touch her. we were trying to apply medication on a wound on her. all of us tried but got scratched. then my partner volunteered and strangely she just sat quietly, allowing him to apply the medication. since then, she became one of my favourite. sadly she passed away last year but i'll always miss her.

Hi apple, I also had another cat "baby", poor thing she was cross eyed. My daughter found her near the curb and she brought her home to me. This poor kitten had not eaten in I don't know how long. Each time she eat, she growled at me, so when I fed her, I would go over and rub her back, until she got use to me. She got pregnant, and when her due date came she went over and called me. Believe it or not. On mothers day she had her kittens. I was washing dishes she went over and meow at me, until I followed her. A while later she had her first kitten. I was there when the first kitten came out. I left her alone with her baby and continue to wash the dishes, she came and meow kind of weird, I followed her again and she was telling her baby feel, as I looked in between two boxes, there was her baby. after that she would not let me live her alone. She had 3 kittens on Mothers days. The weird thing about all this is that she waited for me to come home.

Oh, that is so sad! Animals in pain often act up to try to get help. Same with children.

Yes, I once knew a really mean cat. It belonged to a friend of mine. It was mean to everyone, not just me. Sometimes it was even mean to my friend. We got a lot of laughs from some of its antics. It was very insistant that no one was supposed to sit on a certain area of her couch and if anyone ever did it would scratch at their ankles until they moved. Once when her husband brought home his new large screen tv, this cat hated it so badly that it would run at it full force and just throw itself up on the screen. It would just splat on the screen, fall back on the floor and hiss the whole time. It was bizarre. I feel bad referring to it as "it" throughout, but I can't even remember if it was male or female and I never grew enough of a fondness for it to remember it's name. But my friend LOVED this cat. I used to just laugh and tell her, it really must be love.

Cat love is just that way! Hard to explain and even harder to justify.

I know a mean cat, mine. She is very tempermental, she will swat at you if you try to touch her. My husband can not even brush her, she will bite and growl. She will only let my husband pet her on her terms. Silly mean kittie

Yes, I've known three. One I currently own. The first I knew was a siamese cat a friend of mine owned. He loved to jump on your lap and dig in his claws and stare at you. If you moved, he dug them in deeper. My mom's cat was also a mean cat. He was gray and it seems to be a thing with gray cats. He didn't like anyone and loved to scratch people. My gray cat named Smokey is very strange. He loves to find one of the other cats sleeping somewhere and he fights them for their spot - because they have already warmed it up. He gets into trouble daily for this behavior too. He also likes to stalk the dog and he gets in trouble for that as well. LOL

Your Smokey is so funny! He sounds like my kitten Little Buddy. Last night, Little Buddy tracked down our female cat, EB, while she was sleeping and pounced on her until she was snarling. I ran into the room, just in time to see EB trying to squirm underneath the recliner for her own safety. Little Buddy got a time out in the laundry room. Course, the laundry room is the cat's room, so it's not so bad. I'm not a mean cat mommy! But I do try to provide them with loving limits!

You're the one in charge! And you're letting him know that. That's very important. If left unchecked a cat's wild tendencies can lead them to anger issues and aggression.

I know a few really moody cats, one that my mom has usually is fairly friendly but when he gets into a mood. He will attack you on the fly. I walked by him one time and he totally hit at my leg. Then I bent down NEAR him, I was not going towards him, but it was in front of my daughter, she was going to pet him but I got in her way and bent down in front of her and the cat COMPLETELY scratched and BIT at me, Drew Blood even!! It scared my daughter to the point of her crying and though I did not cry it did sort of scare me a bit too. My mom felt really bad and since that time the cat just keeps away from me.

When I was a baby, maybe 1 or 2, my parents owned a cat that absolutely hated me. It would attack me at a moments notice and one day it jumped on top of my head and just started tearing into me. My dad was ready to snap it in half, literally, when my uncle took it from him and took it to his house. That cat went from being a menace to my head to the sweetest animal on Earth. No clue what it was about me but he didn't like me one little bit.

Oh, that's sad! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Usually cats are terrified of any kind of small animal or baby that is on it's eye level and can look it in the eye. Usually that's a challenge. When you look at a cat, you must lower your eyelids almost all the way. It's a nonchalant greeting that says, "I'm fine! How about you?" Cats everywhere will respect you if you do this. Once when my big male cat was acting all weird, I watched a lion show on cable that showed how other lions greet each other with a head butt. The next time he jumped on the couch and got surly with me, I lowered my head and used my head to bump his forehead, gently. He's been my best friend ever since!

I have met a scardey cat, but never a mean one. It seems that although I am more of a dog person, cats just seem to purr and rub themselves against me, unless they are nervous, in their effort to change me from a dog lover to a cat lover. And even when the cat has kittens, they do not mind as long as I pet the mother as well, and say nice things to the kittens. Do you suppose that is what I was doing wrong?

This is a very interesting topic. I haven't met such kind of a cat. But cats are likely to be very cool. I don't think it's mean anyway:) Cats just have their own characters and this is very special quality in my opinion. I love China

Hey there beauty, I love cats and I've always remember having cats since I was around 8 years old. All my cats had their own name, each and every one of them. I had one cat her name was Gidget and she used to be not mean but get mad at me, when I got home late. I was going to school at the time and I would come around 9pm. As soon as I walked in she follow me, trying to bite me. My daughter thought it was funny, I had to tell Gidget to stop but she won't, she would not leave alone and till she get her teeth in me and that's when she leave me alone. This happen on the days I go to school. I can't say she was mean, but she missed me. I love her. No other cat has done that. she was the one and only.

When I was young, majority of cats I had were typically afraid to get close to me. Whenever I tried to be friends with them or touch them, they would absolutely become mean. The only time these cats became friendly is when I bring food to them.

Hi beautyquen, My niece has a cat that doesn't like to be touched or petted. If she decides that she wants to come around you, it's okay, but she has to make the first move. I remember one time I tried to pet her and she bit me. Since then, I just let her come around or keep her distance, whichever she prefers. Blessings.

I have a cat right now that is mean to everybody but me (and sometimes my 12 year-old son). If anybody else gets near him, he hisses and swats at them. I, on the other hand, can pick him up and pet him and kiss him. I would never get rid of him, because I don't think that anybody else would take him and he'd probably end up getting put to sleep! lol I got him when he was a kitten and he had been in a house with multiple dogs. I think that he had to fight for his food, etc. and I'm sure that has something to do with his personality now.

I have written about my cat, Elvis, before. But his behavior still baffles me. He was a nice sweet , loving cat and then one day he totally went berserk and bit me. I got a horrible infection and had to go to emergency for shots. He got good again for a while and then bit me again. I mean, not just a nip, a real bad bite. The vet said there was nothing wrong with him, but we had to send him to his maker. no body would take a cat that bites. I don't know if he was mean or crazy, but he was a menace!

I have a friend from Alaska that had a cat that was possessive of the husband's chair. My ex sat in that chair one day and the cat hit my ex on the head. Now, my ex claimed that it felt like one of the kids had hit him on the head and that it hurt. I watched the same cat wait for my ex to pass on the stairwell and the cat would strike out at him. Funny! The cat liked everyone else... I think I should have paided closer attention to that cat. LOL

Like you, I had a cat that I gave to my best friend, then after 3 years she gave back that cat to me because she cannot longer take care of it because she just gave birth. I think this is the very mean cat I ever had. He stole foods in the table then got poo in our bed for 3 times. I don't know what to do with him because he's very mean. I just brought him to my friend but I told him what the cat always do so he will be warn.

My husband had a black attack cat. This cat would chase me down the hallway for no reason! He attacked the other cats and the dogs (St. Bernards). LOL!! To top it off, the cat was HUGE. Not joking, over 20 lbs! He was just plain mean. I am a huge cat lover and have some experience in an animal hospital. There was nothing medically wrong with this cat. He was just mental!

yes i have, its my neighbors cat.. it was relaxing in my garden, i thought seemed cute laying there on my lawn, i hadn't lived at the house long so i didn't know the cat... i took some food out to it, just little dry cat food, and for no reason it went for me, scratched and hissed... I really, never known such a spiteful cat before. You can not go anywhere near it.. so i think maybe it finds it difficult to trust humans, obviously something bad happened to it in pass he not forgotten, before neighbor took him in..
