Selling on ebay

So this is my very first new discussion on mylot. I've spent the past couple of hours reading through other discussions trying to get the hang of this and finally got the nerve to post. I was just curious how many people have sold things on ebay? I've bought a lot of things off ebay, but am trying to sell for the first time. Is it worth it, or just a lot of work for little payoff? Anyone have advice to offer? Thanks for reading my first post!

Welcome to myLot!! If you are thinking about selling on eBay, do a search of the items you are thinking about selling. Search to see how much they've sold for in the past (completed items- the search can be found in the lefthand panel on the "My Ebay" page) If the items have been selling for a decent price, then you might consider selling. When I have an item I'm selling, I'll list it at a price I'm okay with it selling for. Rather than list it for 99 cents, I'll list it for $4.99 and if it gets only one bid, then I'm okay with $4.99. But one bid at 99 cents and I'm not happy. Remember that it's summer in the US and right now, it's a very busy vacation time, so bidders may not be sitting on their computer right now, looking to bid on items. Good luck!

PS- I have a couple free online programs that you can make money with when you buy and sell on eBay. One is a cash back program and the other is a tool to use in with listings when you sell. If you're interested in getting cash back when you win an eBay auction, let me know.

Thanks for the advice. That is actually what I did when I determined pricing for my items. This is all new to me, so I'll be thrilled if I actually sell something!

Welcome to mylot. I am sure you will enjoy your time here. I wish I had read discussions before I jumped in head first.. my first few were horrible and got no responses. But, I see you were more thoughtful about yours. :) Keep posting well thought out discussions.. you will get the hang of it. When you reply to a discussion.. make sure your replies are well thought out too. Not just a 1 or 2 word answer As for your question... I am anti-greedyfeepay all the way. As a former seller, I became disgusted with all of the fee increases, changes in feedback.. EVERYTHING! Check out my thoughts (along with others) here http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1556267.aspx If you still do decide to sell on greedbay... I wish you all the luck in the world. Go to ebays answer center for any help, I was an active participant there for a looooooong time before I quit selling. Read up on the policies, what can be sold, what can't. Read al you can... much like you did here before diving in head first so you make fewer mistakes than those who don't. I do encourage you to check out loudfrog, ecrater and some of the other sites listed here: http://www.powersellersunite.com/auctionsitewatch.php as well. Some of these sites are free.. or a lot cheaper to sell on and their feedback system is fair Good Luck

Hi dizzblnd and thanks for the welcome. I appreciate your honesty in your experiences with ebay. I was surprised about the fees they charge too. I have some things listed on craigslist that I'm hoping to sell locally because shipping would be outrageous and at least that is free, but I'll check out the other sites you mentioned. I will also read your discussion too. Thank you for your feedback it's much appreciated.

Firstly welcome to Mylot, I have sold a lot on Ebay but I have found you have to be very picky what you put up..as once postage is added it sometimes is not worth people buying unless of course it is a collectable item, that is the one area you should study ...to see what people are collecting, like I have found one thing I have been looking at for someone is donkey ornaments, they are very popular at least here in Australia.

Thanks for the welcome! I think you are right about being picky about what you sell. Even if the items I posted don't sell at least I'm getting my feet wet. I know I've found some good bargains on things I've bought, but it's kind of overwhelming to see all the stuff other people are selling that is like what I want to sell. All in all at least it will be a learning experience for me.

I guess selling on ebay.com & ebay.com.my ( Malaysia - taht's where I come from ) is totally a different thing because we don't have listing fees, insertion fees, final value fees, etc. So I would say we're ( my wife & I ) pretty much enjoying that at the moment
