How to make new friends offline.

I have recently moved to Calgary, Alberta, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and I have no friends here. I want to make some new friends but I don't know how or where to find them. I have gone to the corner pub close to my house but it is visited by people I wouldn't want to be friends with. It seems that the people who go there are pretty rough and I don't know that I would want to see any of them as friends. So where do I go to make some good friends? How do I find them? I have thought to go on plenty of fish to find some, but it seems it is only for kids and I need to meet some people my own age, 51 years old.
So can some one help me and give me some good suggestions on how to make some new friends?

You can not make good friends manually. You may find some friends by that way. But They will not be good friends. You should love the people surround you unconditionally. Then, there is no need to search friends. They will come to you without any efforts. Thanks....

The problem is that I have moved to another province and I don't know anyone so how do I hang around witht the people in my life, when there are none. I need to meet the people first so I can make friends.

I suggest you go find interest groups in your area. If you are into fishing try to search a local group there. Also another is try to make friends with the employees of let's say a local eatery or a store there. It could help because these people that have been working around your area know the people there and who knows they might be your bridges to make new friends.
