Hey Cub fans, Who is your favorite Cubs player and why? I like them all, of course, but my favorite has to be Carlos Zambrano. I just love to watch him pitch and he's kind of like a big guy with a temper of a kid. He puts so much heart into the game and gives it his all. I think that's why he gets so frustrated when things don't go his way. Anyone?? Char :-)

My favorit Cubs player was Ernie Banks. Ernie Banks was the best power-hitting shortstop in baseball in the 1950s and early 1960s, and probably the most popular player in the history of the Chicago Cubs franchise. His enthusiasm for the game of baseball was legendary. Baseball fans will always remember him as the ballplayer who said, "What a great day for baseball. Let's play two!" For 19 years, Ernie Banks delighted Wrigley Field fans with his long and frequent home runs, with his steady fielding and with his cheerful disposition. Cubs' fans affectionately refer to Ernie Banks as "Mr. Cub," for his years of dedicated service to their team. He belted 512 home runs, five times hitting over 40 in a single season. Banks smashed a record of five grand slams in 1955 and his 47 roundtrippers in 1958 are the most ever hit by a shortstop. Ernie Banks has career totals of 512 home runs, good for 12th on the all time list, with 1636 RBI, 1305 runs scored, 2583 hits with a .274 lifetime average. Banks came to the majors directly from the Negro Leagues, appearing late in the 1953 season, starting full-time in 1954. Banks hit 40 or more home runs five times in his career, winning two MVP awards in the process. His first MVP came in 1958, as he hit 313, with league-leading totals of 47 homers and 129 RBI. He won the award again in 1959, leading the league in RBI again, as well as fielding percentage. Banks was named to 11 All-Star teams in his career. Following his retirement in 1971, Ernie Banks was active as a minor league instructor in the Cubs system. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1977. His uniform No. 14 was the first retired by the Cubs organization and currently flies on game days from the left field foul pole. Truly a goodwill ambassador, Ernie Banks founded the Live Above and Beyond Foundation, which provides educational scholarships, and promotes social welfare through programs that lessen neighborhood tensions, eliminate prejudice and discrimination among various age groups and races, and improves and develops the capabilities of children who are underprivileged and reside in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Now do you see why Ernie Banks is my favorite Cub? Lloyd

I'm glad you enjoyed my post. Even though I grew up in the Philadelphia area and rooted for the Phillies, I've always had a soft spot for the Chicago Cubs. I also admired Ferguson Jenkins and Billie Williams. Ferguson Jenkins was a three-time All-Star, winner of the 1971 Cy Young Award, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. Billy Williams started his career in 1959, joining a team that would feature stars like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, and Fergie Jenkins. Billy was selected as the National League Rookie Of The Year in 1961, and set a National League record for consecutive games played with 1,117 between 1962-1971. He was the Sporting News Player Of The Year in 1972, and a six-time National League All-Star. Billy finished his career in 1976, with 426 home runs, 1475 runs batted in, and a .290 batting average. He was elected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1987, and his number 26 was retired by the Cubs the same year. He is currently an executive advisor. Both Billie Williams and Ferguson Jenkins were great players who loved the game. Thanks for starting this discussion. Lloyd

Geovany Soto - My current favorite Cubbie and a real cutie patootie.
This year my favorite is Geovany Soto. He is just adorable and a very good player. He seems to get homeruns any time we need them. He is a wonderful catcher and makes good plays behind the plate. He is willing to use his body to protect the plate and prevent the other team from scoring. He has been my favorite all year. When I got to go see a game earlier this year, he hit a homer just for me! (At least that is the way I dream it!)

Alfonso Soriano is my favorite cubs player for a couple of reasons. First of all he has mad skills and is a really good player. Second of all he is a former yankee.

Oh, I have so many that I love! I'm very fond of Theriot, who has made quite a few great, beautiful, seemingly impossible catches this year - he's not hard to look at either! I'm starting to really love Reed Johnson, if for no other reason than his ability and willingness to dive to make a good catch. Soto is a great player all around. I love Kosuke Fukodome - he's almost always good for a double. Soriano runs hot and cold, but when he's hot, he's HOT! There was a huge uproar in this house when his hand got broken. And we all love Aramis. But I'm very partial to Derrek Lee. He's a great first baseman, also not hard to look at, good batter most of the time - I even have a Derrek Lee shirt! Eh, who am I kidding? I love them all!

All time cubby ? Andre Dawson.. He played the game with intensity and passion. I know he wasnt with the cubs for all that long but he will always be my favorite cubby/baseball player. Now for this years team, I gotta go with Edmonds, they wrote this guy off and he has been a HUGE asset to the outfield while others have struggled or have been injured. tough as nails.
