Is "the Five People You Meet In Heaven" the same as "It's A Wonderful Life"

Does Mitch Albom's book "the Five People You Meet in Heaven" not remind you of the James Stewart film "It's a Wonderful Life" ? I only finished the book last week and it just came to mind. What do you think?

No... it really does not remind me of It's a Wonderful Life. I didn't much care for "Five People." Wonderful Life was way better.... IMHO.

Hi wyomugs. The ending was to me very like "It's A Wonderful Life" as Eddie said to the little girl that his life had been a waste of time. This was similar to James Stewart's reason for wanting to jump off the bridge... and Yes! It's a Wonderful Life was indeed much better. UMart

I have seen that movie though it's been quite a while and I have also read the book which I loved but I wouldn't necessarily about the same thing. I can see where you would get that though. It's a onderful life was about an angel who showed the man what life would have been like if he never existed.

Hi risris24, thanks for your answer. Well I saw strong parallels between the two. James Stewart stayed in Bedford falls, although he wanted to leave years ago. Eddie stayed at The Pier to become the fairground maintenance man - he wanted to study engineering, but circumstances dictated that never got the chance. James Stewart wished he'd never been born and Eddie felt that his life had come to nothing. All the best. UMart
