wedding budget

I watch platinum weddings on cable and am surprised sometimes on how these ppl spend thousands and thousands of dollars on their wedding!How extravagant would you be if you could afford it?last night i watched an episode and a woman had spent 12,000 dollars on her gown alone!She said the groom did not know she spent all that on her dress.What is your view on this?

if i had to do it over again, seriously, i would elope or go to a justice of the peace and then go somewhere to a great honeymoon destination and have some money left over for a downpayment for a house! to spend that money on a wedding is INSANE!

if you have the money, i'd say why not? it is your big day so might as well make the most of it. but, if spending so much will hurt your pocket/budget later on, i'd say we should be practical in dealing with this situation. after all, it is not the fancy ceremony and all the glitters and glory that will assure a happy, wedded bliss, which I'm sure all of us wants to have and/or achieve.

I think if you have the money, you should do what you want. My wedding was only $10k altogether. My dress was $200 off ebay.

It would be nice to spend alot of money for your wedding to make it very special but for me practically, i would just do it simply but gather all the people close to my heart to witness the very special moment in my life.
