Cholesterol-fighting drugs should be given to kids as young as 8 Evidence shows damage leading to heart disease begins early in life Drugs urged for kids 8 or older with too much "bad" cholesterol, other risk factor. Because obesity is a risk factor for heart disease and often is accompanied by cholesterol problems, the academy recommendations say low-fat milk is appropriate for 1-year-olds "for whom overweight or obesity is a concern." What do you think we can do health wise to prevent giving babies this medicine? http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/07/07/children.cholesterol.drugs.ap/index.html

I think if we start feeding them healthy foods and leave all the junk out of their diets except for rare occasions and only then when it is monitored it should help them not have to take the medication. We need to fill them up on vegetables and fruits and not fried or sugared and syruped ones either. We need to go to lowfat foods and do the best we can to help them not get stuck in the the same rut as all of us adults are stuck in. If we start eating healthier then maybe the kids will learn by example and eat that way to. It is much harder to monitor their eating habits at school if they eat school lunches though. We all need to take a step in the right direction even htough right now that direction is expensive, it has to be worth our kids life and ours.

I guess that changes my mind about giving kids bacon because their hearts can still handle it. Sigh. Taking all the fun out of spoiling the kids, you know.
