i love cats. in fact me and my girlfriend have 2. both of them are persian cats. the male one which is older is garfield and the female one is fifi. well just like to share something interesting about garfiled though who likes to sleep, eat and be cuddled all the time. well he is a smart cat except for one thing. he does not know how to cover his litter. lol. i don't know why but he can't. when he poop, instead of digging the sand beside his poop to cover it he ended up digging the plastic litter box. the good thing is, Fifi will be the one who will cover it for him. lol. i hope you do have a cat like ours and tell us acutally if you were able to train him to cover his litter properly. thanks.

I had a male cat for about 8 years that NEVER covered his poop. I never got him to change his ways and my solution ended up being to move his litter box to the basement away from the main area of the house so i didn't have to smell it all the time. I also poop scooped in the AM and PM every day.

I have two cats, one is a male long haired guy who is good at covering up his little Gifts. My female is 16 years old, I call her the old lady, she never covers anything. The male always covers up her mess, he's so helpful. I never had to show him anything, he just came to me already trained. I don't understand why she doesn't cover. She sometimes scratches the side of the pan though.

well there might be a reason for his behaviour. there are theories that suggests cats do not cover their poop to show dominance. your male cat might be trying to tell you who is the boss. fifi covering garfield's poop is showing submission.
another reasons could also be the litter material. your male cat just doesn't like the litter material. so he scratch the litter pan rather than the sand. ;p

oh yes !
i hate to say it but the sides of the litter box take the beating.....someone told me that when you dump and change the litter, to actually clean and disinfect the box itself.
i tried that, didn't work either.
i've covered more of their poop in my life than they have !
