Just how stupid do the politicians think we are?

How much is too much? - While G8 leadres tell us we must all economise on food they sit down to a 9 course banquet

It's all the rage here in UK that Prime Minister Gordon Brown thinks one of the answers to the current hike in world food prices is that we should all waste less food, as we admittedly throw away a shocking 4 million tons of food a year. At the current G8 conference in Japan food and oil prices hav been high on the agenda. Two areas of high hypocrisy from these 'earnest'leaders:- 1. BBC news this morning reported that the conference leaders sat down to a banquet of 19 courses. Who needs that much food? Even the erstwhile Bob Geldof admitted he'd eaten so much he couldn't move. Wonder what his mates in Ethiopia thought of that? 2. How much jet fuel did it take to get all these people together? Their carbon footprint must have been pretty deep. As usual is it only the lesser of us mortals who must tighten belts?

So what's new about politicians thinking that we're stupid? They've been patronising us, talking down to us, lying to us, and generally treating us as if we're stupid for years. And the worrying this is that so few people seem to care! As far as the banquet at G8 goes, I completely agree that it's against everything that G8 is supposed to be for. With the fuel to get everyone together though, I'm prepared to be more forgiving. In some cases, it's better to do something for the greater good, even if that uses allot of resources on the face of it. If G8 makes a difference, then it's for the greater good and the use of fuel becomes worthwhile. However, if they just sit about spouting mistruths and scoffing giant banquets then it becomes a travesty of justice!

Hi Michael, I totally agree with you. In this day and age surely they could all link up through video conferencing rather than travelling around and talking of food shortages whilst being gluttonous themselves eh. Ellie :D

These politicians find all the most stupid reasons to give when they cant find a decent solution. They should concentrate at the reasons for the rising prices, which may include things like speculation and hoarding . Also increased food prices due to the increased fuel and transport costs which are again related to speculative reasons. It is the "leeser mortals" who value and respect the food that we eat. It is the higher of these mortals like these politicians who are invariably wasting more of this food.
