I recently made an order for a built-in wardrobe for my guest room.
Initially I wanted to get a ready-made one from Ikea, but after checking out the prices and quality, I realised that it costs only marginally more to build in a wardrobe which would not leave any gaps between the top of the wardrobe and the ceiling of my room.
And the quality of the built in wardrobe would be higher (plywood) and I can choose the laminate instead of going with this plain white ikea surfacing.
Since I could also design the level of the drawers and the number of shelves and height of the clothes rods, in the end we just decided to go ahead with the built in. They are going to install in by the end of the month - I'm looking forward to it!
What is the latest piece of furniture you have purchased and are you enjoying it?

wow that's really exciting isn't it? to get a new piece of furniture built in. i love to shop for furniture and thoroughly enjoyed myself during my renovation process. even until today, i'm still on the look out for interesting pieces. but i do my 'shopping' on ebay. there are lots of bargain and sometimes i can't help it but buy another piece. the most recent piece of furniture is a small tv console for my room. given the small size of my room, i can only get a tiny weeny one. ;p

i am usually quite the kiasu person. i'll place a bid at the last few moments. i'll follow that bid with a maximum bid so that i won't be outbid in the last minute. this works for me quite well. though i have to say that it doesn't work every single time. i've been outbidded for quite a few times too. here a pix of my small tv console. i got it at $25, quite a steal don't you think?

Well, now that I have my own home, my search for furniture is not limited to just the local market.
I got quite a fair bit of my furniture from Johor.
A lot of really good looking and designer pieces at prices that are at least 20-30% cheaper than what you would get locally!
And the quality is also just as good.
For the same budget that I source for in singapore, I can furnish two bedrooms when I go shopping in Johor!
And the designs now a days are pretty good too.
And the bonus? Well, the place where I go shopping for furniture, has a restaurant that serves one heck of a great Peking Duck dish! And it is pretty reasonably priced too! Even in RM!
So, recently, I went in with my wife to search for a good set of bedroom furniture. And we had heck of a good time selecting the furniture. And of course the meals are all good!
My newest set of room furniture will be arriving really soon. And I am so looking forward to it!

Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I do not drive, so find it pretty easy to get across.
Nothing more than 15 mins on average.
Those occassional half hour waits are rare. So no worries about it. Once you get there, going around by cab is pretty easy.
