Try this if you suffer from air,sea or other travel sickness. When traveling by car or train, focus on distant objects rather than on near-by ones moving past you.And you may want to try capsules containing powdered ginger roots. What is your opinion and experience ?

Yes its a good advice. Capsules should be taken in extreme conditions. I would advice to sleep while travelling.

Hi there roshand8 I have two children that suffer from travel sickness though they do seem to be getting through it now as they are getting older and we are travelling around a lot more now that we have a car. I find that a tablet from the chemist (sea legs) does the trick. As my kids that get sick are only 3 and 5 it is hard to get them to eat ginger as I do know that this can help. I have tried wrist bands recently but they didn't work at all and went back to the tablets. I have also read that eating plenty of carbs during and before a journey is also good, I find this works sometimes and other times not!

Hi humbug, for children it could be worse..do not put on too much clothes on your children and don't let them eat right before going for a ride.Take breaks and get some fresh air,try to minimize eating sweet in the car, occasionally open the window to let some fresh air in.Some say that a little Coca Cola will help,my mama used to give me Coca cola when I was a child. You can sing with your children .They will tell mama was right...Have fun

Thanks for the advice roshand8. I actually find that sucking boiled sweets like lollypops helps them to take their minds off of being sick and keeps the saliva ciculating in their mouths. We recently went on an5 hour road trip stopping only once with no one throwing up! They do seem to be getting better but I don't think we will ever have a bucket and wet wipe free car!! Cheers!

I love to travel by train. I can look out of window or read a book in the day time and sleep in a comfortable compartment at night time. I never feel travel sick when I am on a train. I can travel on long train rides like several days quite happily. I prefer to get a window seat on a plane otherwise I feel closed in and scared. I like being able to see out at take off and landing time. I can feel sick if the flight is very bumpy. I have only ever once been sick on a plane and that was a rough trip with two landings. I wear ear planes when I fly to stop me getting severe ear pain. It is uncomfortable eating with those in my ears so I eat a few snacks before I get on the plane. I can get travel sick on buses and coaches if I can't see out of the window or the route is twisting and turning a lot. I feel that eating something like crisps helps if I feel a bit off color. I don't like to go on trips on a bus longer than a day or a night. I only get sea sick if I can't see out or the ocean is rough with high waves that toss the ferry around. I wear wrist bands when I go on a trip on a ferry. I think that ginger root capsules might help me. One of my friends gets sea sick on even the most gentle sea voyage.

During my younger years, I used to suffer from motion sickness while traveling--whether by land, air or sea. I can remember feeling miserable and nauseated during the entire journey while my colleagues were enjoying the amenities of the boat. But because I started to travel more often, I overcome motion sickness and I'm okay now. Recently though, I am starting to hate traveling by air because of air pockets, otherwise, I'm ok.

Thanks for the advice. I do not get sick when I travel by air but definitely get sick when I travel by sea. When I went on a Windjammer cruise several years ago we had these patches that went behind your ear and released medication. I don't think they prescribe these anymore. They worked really well but after a few days they made you kinda loopy. I could not sleep in the cabin after I removed the patch so I went up on deck and that helped a lot, not really sure why, maybe the fresh air and focusing on distant objects like you said.

I have often experienced motion sickness especially when travelling by motorboat. Focusing on the horizon usually works for me, but when the travel is more than 2 hours, its not enough. Over-the-counter motion sickness pills leave me with a heavy, sleepy head and sometimes even a headache. I've never tried powdered ginger. Next time I go on a trip...

I've only had good luck with prescription motion sickness pills. Ginger tends to upset my stomach, and the ginger capsules tend to be worse than ginger chews or ginger lozenges. The over-the-counter motion sickness pills don't do much for me, other than put me to sleep.

Thanks for the tips. Before I easily get motion sickness and I think the best way to stop it is to travel a lot in that way your body will get used to traveling and soon you will notice that you don't get motion sickness anymore.
