Dangers of using public computers....

Well my nephew is learning the dangers of using public computers. He was at a store that has public computers and he forgot to log off....someone went into his myspace and really did a number on him. They posted a bulletin "apologizing" for infecting people with genital herpes. They also posted a very unkind saying on his myspace page eluding to him being gay (he is not). Now all his friends have seen these two things and all of thier friends and the list goes on. Of course all my friends have seen it since my nephew is on my friends list also. So in our home town where he lives it is going to get ugly cause of how people are back there. I just hope he doesn't get hurt in the process. He is living a good Christian life and a member of a Christian band so this does not look good for him even though he didn't do it and it is not true. So take care and caution to log out of everything when you are using a public computer or even wifi public connections.

poor kid, what he needs to do is go to the police station tell them what happend, and have them look at survaillence camera from where he used the computer. he nedds to let the cops know this in the event somehting happens that they just dont shrug him off. and those who are realy his friends will know that is a lie and stick by him, if some one says something or does something. people can be very ignorant and predijuce, and its a shame that some one who had nothing else better to do didnt just log of and minded thier own business. i wish him the best of luck

We are just praying that someone doesn't see it and think they will help him out (it says on his myspace "God I need some d*** really bad"). It is horrible and there are all kinds of sickos out there who target teen boys especially the quiet kind like my nephew.

thank you. He leaves Ar for New York to visit with his grandfather in 10 days so he will be away from it all for I think about 3 weeks. He goes to New York every summer.

Thanks for the warning and Im sure your nephew has learnt he hard way about using public computers. Hopefully in a few months people will have forgotten about this incident and he will be able to laugh about it. As long as his family and friends support him and believe in him, then it shouldnt matter what others think!! There are some nasty spiteful people out there, not caring about the consequences of their actions!!

I'm well aware of the dangers of using public computers. I hope your son can clear this up what some jerk did to him. I used the library computer for almost a year and knew to not only log off everything but to also delete cookies, history, and temp. files along with any saved usernames/passwords. I did it all every time I was done with it.

That is great advice, but at a hard earned lesson for your nephew.. I am not sure what advice to give him but all of the gossip will die down sooner if he just ignores it.. I do know that is a hard way to handle it but in the long run, it is probably the best way.. Tell him to hold his head up high, the gossip will go on to someone else soon enough..

i am so sorry to hear what happened to your nephew. you are right, we have to be very careful in using computers which are used by more people like the internet cafes. actually that can also happen in some offices, with computers that not only one person is using it...

My yahoo email was hacked into before when I forgot to log out of my account 3 years ago. My ex and I were on a vacation and in one of the cities we stopped by we usually go to internet cafes to check our mails. It was only one time that I got so careless I didn't log out completely. When I came back home after the vacation, I could not access it anymore. My friendster account once got hacked too when I used a public computer a year ago. What happened was the computer froze and I told the attendant I'd just transfer instead of waiting for the restart because I was frustrated with using that computer too. What I noticed afterwards was someone was sending email invites to my friends through my friendster account telling them to add a few people to their friends list. But the worse was that same person replied to a message exchange I had with my classmate by saying "F u." My God. Sick people. I apologized to my classmate, telling him my account was used by someone else.

Wow! That's really something. I use the computers at the resource centre (different from the library, it's a place at the mall with pulic computers) sometimes, and I'm neurotic about signing out of things. Wow, sorry for your nephew. YIKES! That's an awful thing to have happen to someone. Hopefully people will understand this mistake, and that he did not do it.
