I Had To Work 12 Hours On My Birthday. But I'm Not Complaining.

Fried Whiting. - Fried Whiting recipe

1. Clean, wash and skin the whiting, dry well in a cloth.

2. A few minutes before the whiting are to be fried, remove them from the cloth. Brush the fish over with beaten egg, roll them in breadcrumbs and shake off any loose crumbs.

3. Heat some deep fat until it will brown a 2.5 cm (1 in) cube of bread in 1 minute; fry the whiting for 5-10 minutes, handling them carefully, as they break easily.

4. Drain well on crumpled kitchen paper,

5. Garnish with fried parsley and don't forget the "Hot Sauce".

My birthday was July 3rd. I had to go in at 10:00 p.m. and work until 10: a.m. on the 4th of July. I was so tired after work that I fell asleep and almost missed our family 4th of July BBQ. Even though I wished that I could have had the day off, I'm not complaining. I feel very fortunate that my services were needed during this time of lay-offs and downsizing in the American economy. Even though the economy is in shambles, the industry I'm in seems to be surviving the downturn. And believe it or not, my industry cannot survive without purchasing huge amounts of fuel. Because of that, I feel very blessed. Anyway, I did make it to the BBQ. We had a little bit of everything to eat. My favorite was the deep-fried Whiting fish. We also had hotdogs, hamburgers, pork ribs, sliced turkey, salad and lots of beer. Overall it was a wonderful day. Lots of Reggae music, family and friends and just good times. Do you get off from work for your birthday? Or are you just happy to be employed like I am?What are your thoughts? Lloyd

Hello, lloydanthony111! I'm under 18, so I don't have a job. However, on my birthday, I was called to work half shift in a party of Saint John. This is very common in Brazil, by the 24th we celebrate Saint John's day, which is also my birthday. I went there, and the working hours were meant to be from 7 a.m. to 12, being it 5 hours. We ended up working 6 hours and a half and I still didn't receive my money. They are saying they will pay next week, when they should have paid yesterday. Sucks, doesn't it? My own birthday and I worked for free. By the way, here we do not celebrate July 4th, since it's the Independence of the United States... Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Sorry to hear that you haven't been paid yet. But don't worry, they'll pay you. Do you celebrate anything similiar to our Independence Day? Lloyd

They have paid me, finally! And yes, we celebrate Brazil's Independence... It's on September 7th. But hey, we don't really celebrate it... People just consider it a holiday.

Happy belated birthday Lloyd. Glad to hear that you made it to the bbq and that you had a good time. The way things are going I think everyone is happy to have a job and I hope things get better for us - we deserve it.

Happy belated Birthday! My birthday is July 21st, I'll be 28. My dad's is also July 21st! I was his birthday present, but I'm sure he wishes he had a boy instead of me. Anyway, I don't work outside of the home because I take care of my husband and we don't have a car right now. So I get to take off for my birthday unless I have a writing assignment that is due on that day. Glad you had a great 4th of July! We didn't do anything but stay home. :)

I hope you will be able to get a car soon if that is what you want. Even though you didn't do anything for July 4th, maybe you can plan something for your birthday. Lloyd
