Have any of you ever eaten kolaches? Do you make your own?

They are a favorite treat for me going back to my childhood. On Saturdays my mother would bake up a batch, and we could eat them almost as fast as she made them. I've never found a lot of places where I can buy good ones, though.

kolaches ~ So far no one is talking about what I know as kolaches. How we know that is fruit filled with frosting on top. My Mother was Bohemian and that was one of her favorite Bohemian foods.

Yes, they are Bohemian, but I've never seen them with frosting. I grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA which is in the heart of the "Bohemie Belt" in the midwest.

Oh yummy. A fruit filled kolache sounds a lot like a turnover. They only make them with meat and cheese down here in Austin.

I love kolaches but the closest I have ever gotten to making my own is pigs-in-a-blanket.

With my grandmother it was her homemade cake donuts hot from the fryer. They were wonderful just like my mother's kolaches. Isn't it amazing how often food plays a part in our most cherished memories?

I love kolaches! I have never made them myself but I stop at Jack & Jills Donuts every morning and get 2 jalapeno and cheese kolaches for breakfast.
