I think that Facebook is pretty safe. The thing is, with facebook you must approve someone before they can see your profile. There are different levels of security of course, there is a way to make it so even people in your network can't see you unless they are on your list. I'm sure you know that though. And as far as personal information, you can choose to put as little or as much personal information as you want. So basically, I think as long as the child was talked to about internet safety and advised not to give too much personal information they would be ok. It wasn't that long ago that I was a teenager, and while I didn't have myspace or facebook back then, I did have things like geocities chat, ICQ, and some message boards and stuff. I even experienced some inappropriate chatroom experiences, and in those cases I left because I knew it was wrong and I felt uncomfortable. I wasn't heavily supervised or talked to about internet safety, but I knew common sense even at 13. That being said, if I have kids someday I will talk to them about internet safety and I would make sure they weren't taking big risks with their information, while also respecting their privacy, there is definitely a way to go and a way not to go. Making sure they are safe and not getting into trouble or talking to weirdos is a good thing, but reading messages from close friends would be a bad idea, much like reading a diary would have been in past generations. LOL Although, I can say one thing, a lot of this also depends on the age and maturity of the child, therefore, supervision should be adjusted based on the history of behavior. Like in my case, I was always on the cautious side, even in real life, and I never did anything that would cause trust issues. Education+Supervision=Safety

facebook is just like myspace but safer since you can choose that only your friends can see your profile, you can block people and you can make it so nobody can see your picture if you don't approve the friend request. it is completly safe in my opinion and thats why i use it over myspace.

ive gotton spam once in 2 years and if you type a name and find out it's a person you don't want to be associated with you can block them so they see the site as if you don't have a face book.

Good morning, dear friend. I have heard about facebook, but I have not become a member of facebook and I do not know anything about it. I think that I will try to search for it to see how facebook works after reading this discussion of yours. Thanks and have a good day.

My children doesn't go to that one but as long as you know their password and check every few days to see what they are up to i can't see where it would hurt anything.

I personally don't like FaceBook for the simple reason that I see them as a cheap knock-off of MySpace. I hate posers, so... I hate FaceBook? XD
