A vacation on a mountain or at the beach?

I've met this question in quite a lot of psychology tests... I wonder what it means if you choose the mountain or the beach? If you were to choose, which place would be an ideal vacation? Why?

If i have the choice I would want both! But of course If I have to choose one, then I would prefer to be on the beach. For obvious reasons..there are many things you can do on the beach...you can just lay under the sun and get a great suntan...or dp some watersports, surfing, kayak or just plain swimming or snorkeling. And when the sun is out...can do fishing and grill what you caught in a bon fire!!!!

Yep, a lot of things can be done on the beach. So like a place that offers flexibility jenyenh?

hahaha.yes. I want many options, coz I dont like to do routine things. Im very spontaneous and with energy so I think I will be bored in the mountains with less things to do. Im very energetic and sometimes I dont like to sleep coz I dont want to waste time sleeping. So, you can imagine if I will be stuck up in a mountain and snowing outside! hehehe

In defense of being in a mountain, I think it would also be exciting to go out camping or scale cliffs. It really just depends on the person though, a matter of preference.

I have motion sickness, so i would prefer to visit a beach than a hill station.

It's quite sad not being able to enjoy hill stations. It's best to take meds to prevent motion sickness.

I would go for the beach because there are more things you can do on a beach than on a mountain. Unless you have a lot of extra kit like parasails, cliff jumping chutes, hang gliders, etc. you are a bit limited to walking up a mountain and walking down again. Mind you, you could try something a bit different and walk round a mountain just for kicks. But a beach. You can play volley ball, beach tennis, swim, dive, snorkel, water ski, sail, surf, etc. Loads to do.

Come to think of it, you do have a point smacksman. You only have land in the mountain, but there's also water in the beach.

I would choose a tropical beach with white sand and gently waving palm trees. I love to snorkel around a colorful coral reef with friendly fish. It is fantastic to see sting rays and it is exciting to see small sharks. It is wonderful to watch the sunset over the ocean in the evening before laying down and seeing the dark sky with many sparkling stars. I like to meet the local people and find out about their culture. I adore walking along tracks, seeing native wildlife and taking photos of lovely scenery. I like to have some adventure and not just relaxation. I had a wonderful time island hopping in the Seychelles and I had a superb adventure in Belize but the Maldives was a bit boring. I really enjoy climbing mountains but this would be part of a holiday rather than a whole vacation. In New Zealand I saw gorgeous beaches and climbed a mountain. It gave me an active adventure that I really enjoyed. Afterwards I went to Samoa so I saw much culture, nature, wildlife and palm fringed beaches.

I would pick the beach - not necessarily because I like being on the beach - but I love hearing the ocean at night, and I like the feeling I am on the 'edge' of the continent. Being in the middle makes me feel a bit agoraphobic. And if it meant I'd have to actually CLIMB the mountain ... not a happening thang!

Yeah, I actually like the sound of the beach at night too. It's just perfect for relaxation.

If you have problems with motion sickness karjo, you can try some over-the-counter medications. It's such a waste not being able to appreciate some places just because of a treatable symptom. Thanks for the reply.

To me it seems more to decide out of which weather suits me and I would prefer the mounatin as I like places which are cold then to those which are hot. Unless of course there is a place which has a mountain which comes down into a beach.

alokn99, it seems you like the best of both worlds. Come to think of it, I also like the idea of a mountain which comes down into a beach.

Yeah, it's best to have a vacation on a new place. In a vacation, nothing is more exciting than a change in scenery.

I would always prefer a mountain to climb than to lie on a beach. I think it applies both to my psychological approach to life and to my life in the real world. Mountains present a mental and physical challenge and much effort, which is highly rewarding when you reach the top. Beaches are where people lie around and do nothing. There is no challenge or motivation required. I have never in my life wanted to spend a vacation sitting on a beach, but I have spent many enjoyable weeks climbing hills and mountains. I think the psychology of it shows whether a person has ambition and likes life to be challenging, or would prefer to sit around and have an easy life.

Hmmm... It actually makes sense. However, not everyone on the beach prefers to lie around. If I were in a beach, I'd swim my heart out. I still don't get the psychology, but I'm getting an idea. Perhaps the question is a another way of asking "Tell me something about yourself?" I'm usually asked the question during job interviews.

it is easy to decide for me as i like beaches more than mountains. no doubt the beauty in in mountains is breath taking but at the same time beauches can be very versatile too. so lets enjoy both of them leaing the psychology

Good answer dropofrain, it's sometimes best to keep things simple. I still don't know know what it psychologically means, but we enjoy what we enjoy.
